Drove most of the way up and ran into the friendly volunteer lookout closing the gate for the evening. Parked and joined him for the easy jaunt to the tower, and he welcomed us up. Well worth the trip! The view of Great Bear Wilderness and the lower Hungry Horse Reservoir (completely full) was awesome. Camped out at a scenic turnout below the gate afterwards and had a cougar encounter, which caught us off guard.
