PrinceOfNorwayDecember Chill  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Dec 8, 2012

PrinceOfNorway

This is a tough mountain slogging through snow; even with snowshoes. Anyway, I decided to climb up this mountain in a storm, and it was probably in the negative on top...especially with the wind chill. I spent 5 minutes; made a short vid, took some pics and was gone. Plunge step for the win!

Hiked from the new trail head parking lot near the beginning of South Ophir Canyon up the ATV trail to the Mercur overlook and then took the trial up to just below Lewiston Peak. Hiked up the ridge to Lewiston and over to Flat top. 4 hours 10 min total from car to flat top. 3700 ft elevation from car to flat top. Perfectly clear and sunny day. Great views.

This was my third trip to the Oquirrhs for skiing/peak-bagging, and the first time there was no whiteout on the summit. I was very glad to finally see the incredible views.

nice views, the trail is pretty overgrown, and lots of flies. 2wd TRD tacoma made it up and down the road fine. started about half mile below the saddle. 3 hours up, 1hr45min down. lots of flowers too.

Pfeiffer75Expensive Hike  Sucess!

Climbed from the main saddle at 8000 feet up South Fork Canyon. Pretty straightforward climb to Lewiston and then a ridge walk over to Flat Top. The drive was the worst part. Ended up doing $400 of damage to the underbody of my ford getting hung up on a boulder in South Fork canyon

Second climb on 6/4/2012. The road up south fork canyon is still in bad shape

Date Climbed: Dec 12, 2009
I climbed Lewiston and Flat Top today with very low visibility. Not too much snow yet, maybe a foot or a little more up high. Flat Top probably received 4 inches or so today while I was up there.

I've started my list of Ultra peaks now. This was a magnificent peak. Definitely know why they call it Flat Top. And I had it all to myself! I didn't see a single other person the entire day. It was a gorgeous day with light winds from the south. It was warm and I was in a t-shirt all day. Absolutely perfect day!

Hiked this one with my 18-year old son. Spur of the moment decision. Tougher than I expected. Beautiful day for a hike though. 2.5 hours up and 1.5 hours down. Hiked from 8,100-foot elevation trailhead that originates from road out of Ophir Canyon. We were the second set of signatures in the logbook for the day. See summit log of Mr. Winters below ;-).

Drove up South Fork from Ophir to 8,060 ft and the trailhead. Ascended to the west ridge and contoured on Lewiston Peak's northwest slopes to the summit. Ran into a herd of elk on the ridge. Returned via Lewiston Peak's summit on down the west ridge adding about 0.3 miles to the roundtrip 6.8 miles.

Dean2nd visit, this time via Lewiston Peak  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Jun 5, 2009

Dean

A friend from Seattle really wanted this mountain so I consented to doing it again. Driving the road was a reminder that this most likely will be the last time I ever do this peak. It was worse than I remembered but at least the road was open. I drove to 8100 feet and parked and we then found the trail which helped us to Lewiston Peak. From there we descended snow to the connector ridge to Flat Top Peak, which we enjoyed for about five minutes before an electrical storm in the area chased us off.

This was my first "real" hike in a few years. I'm newly married, and mostly out of shape. This was a tough one for me. The weather was iffy, there were pouring rainstorms and intimidating thunder storms surrounding us the majority of the hike. We lucked out and never got hit with it. The trail was shoddy, at best, and very frustrating at times. It was very rewarding, however. The views were spectacular! A very interesting location, which I knew almost nothing about. Very glad I did it, and will hopefully come back later in life. Loved it.

Happy to say the road to the saddle is open, though very rough. Also no one has descrebed "Val's trail" which switches back through the forest before meeting up with lewiston ridge at a small saddle. Lot's of very old tree carvings here (almost all before 80's many from early 1900's, one from 1907! Lot's of helicopter activity and landing on the ridges, fresh tire tracks from them in the snow on both lewiston and flat top. What is with the doorbell on the solar shed on flat top? that is eery, is there like a tunnel that goes down below that because there is absolutely no use for a doorbell for a shed that small. Weird.

Very warm day, more like September than december, very clear with views from logan to Uintahs, entire wasatch front, Mine camp peak, Ibapah, moroni, Wheeler peak (maybe even North schell? not sure but very far away, further than wheeler but to the north.) Pilot and the raft river range and everything in between. Fabulous, fog in the salt flats down low in the morning gave the appearance of islands to all the small ranges to the west.

The South Fork Road was blocked at its start 1.2 miles past Ophir. Did a great climb loop trip climbing Porphyry Hill, Peak 8790, Lewiston, Flat Top, "East Flat Top" 10,340, and Peak 9925. Dropped down 9925 NW Ridge in perfect snowshoing conditions. Thats 5 ranked summits and Lewiston in 9.5 hours, 6300 gain, 14 miles RT.
