| snowbeast745 | After Work Hike ![]() | |
| I try to do this hike once a week or so after work. I live in South Anchorage so it is easy to access from my house. Depending on how long I stop at the top to enjoy the view, I am up and back to my truck in an hour and a half. The scramble at the top is fun, but can be treacherous in wet conditions. The rocks have become so rounded and smooth from all the traffic that they can be rather slick. I come across a lot of people who get most of the way to the top and then want to stop a few hundred feet from the summit because the rocks look so intimidating. Really, they are not that bad! On nice days, the parking lot is PACKED. However, don't park on the road. I know people who have been ticketed for doing that. I find that the crowds are smaller and the view is still nice on days that are a little overcast. Even when it looks like there are clouds at the top, it often looks better once you are up there! | ||

| I believe I was 5 years old the first time I climbed this little peak in front of Anchorage. Of course, I have been back up there many times since then and enjoy running from town up to the summit and back nowadays. | ||

| bblack99 | Great first day in Alaska ![]() Date Climbed: Aug 6, 2011 | |
| Landed in Achorage and hit the hotel around 3:30am Saturday but thanks to jet anti-lag, was atop Flattop by 10am. Wide, easy trail up to the second saddle, then rock hopping and scrambling for a short stretch beneath the broad, flat summit. | ||

| It's a fun little hike with great views but the crowd is amazing. I think half of Anchorage came out to hike that day. Still a bit of snow with some shirtless meatheads sliding down in board shorts and white frogskins. | ||

| On our first trip to Alaska...this was our first mountain to climb. It was a nice scramble at the top, although a little crowded. Make sure you take time to look at the interesting alpine flora in addition to the views in all directions. | ||

| CWessels | First Alaskan Summit ![]() Date Climbed: Jul 4, 2010 | |
| Climbed on the 4th and again on the 5th. Extremely windy up top on the 5th--like nothing I've ever experienced! Not a long or difficult hike, but lots of fun side scrambles. Alaskan wilderness is so beautiful and nearby Ptarmigan looks very intimidating! I can't believe the peaks around here are only 3,000-5,000 ft; they have a real alpine look and feel to them. | ||

| Natestation | Winter Climb ![]() Date Climbed: Jan 29, 2010 | |
| My buddies and I made a good climb out of Flattop by going in the winter. The weather was great - only 20 degrees and the moon made the snowscape bright enough to turn off our headlamps. We took a direct rout to the summit, no going around on the stairs or on the old north face path. Getting to the top without crampons or was difficult, but we managed to. I don't suggest it! :) For a reward, we jumped off the western chute and slid back down to the second bench. | ||
