Flirting with the great depths of the abyss, Ellen stops to peer off the sheer southwest face of Challenger's fun Class 2 ridge route. Not everyone should try this! Ascent of Kit Carson/Challenger Point during the July 24 SP Members Gathering. Digital photo by Aaron Johnson

Voted 10/10 | Fantastic shot Aaron!!! You know I am not big in hero shots, but this one is so much more. Check out more SPers on the ridge behind Ellen. | | Posted Jul 26, 2004 2:41 pm |

Voted 10/10 | Looks a lot like it did when I was up there and turned around from my trip over to Kit Carson. It was clear as a bell until I summited Challenger and got to see what was on the west side. Looked exactly like it does in your pic. Hauled tail down and about 30 minutes after I hit Willow Lake, enormous amounts of cloud to ground lightning! I think I will overnight Kit Carson next time and get an earlier start! | | Posted Jul 24, 2009 2:40 pm |

Hasn't voted | Yep. We had a camp just above Willow Lake. We got there and about an hour later it let loose for a couple of hours. I've Kit Carson in one day...twice. It's a brutally long day but worth it, however, camping is better and is certainly the better way to enjoy the mountain. Have fun and good luck with your next visit. | | Posted Jul 24, 2009 6:40 pm |
| theAxeman | Sorry, I don't have the stones for that | |
Hasn't voted | Too scared for that death defying unroped hero stuff!
Cheers

Hasn't voted | And that's a good thing. Until you're ready and work up to it, it's best not to "push the envelope." Elen actually had a terrific fear of heights when I met her. It took some tanacity, practice with rope and lots of scrambling to get to the point where she could stand on that rock for this photo. Even so, today we're both skiddish about high places and we don't needlessly venture out to airy perches. Thanks for stopping by and commenting! | | Posted Jan 15, 2010 6:01 pm |
