Labor Day Weekend  Sucess!

After getting to the "Surprise!" overlook in July and seeing far too much snow in the glacier basin, we decided to come back again a month and a half later. Flowers were still impressive and we spun in circles, the entire way through the glacier basin. Had a nice dinner at the chalet before plodding the rest of the way to the trailhead in the dark. Rivals the Ptarmigan Wall goat trail for best dayhike in the park.

Finally  Sucess!

I'd been to Sperry Glacier in June before (covered in snow). I'd been to the pass overlooking Floral Park in July before (Glacier was covered in snow), but two days ago I attempted the Floral Park route for the second time and the glacier was largely exposed. We brought crampons with us so that we could pick a route that included some glacial travel. We even had the opportunity to cross a bergschrund to exit the glacier. Truly an amazing day!

The hike out from Sperry chalet about turned my feet to bloody stumps (I felt even worse than I did after doing the Skyline Experience loop last year, but that may be to a restricted training schedule this year). Hitching a ride back to Logan Pass at 7:30 was a snap (Thanks Christine!).

This is one of those hikes that I dream of bringing my kids to see some day. Remarkable!

Floral Park  Sucess!

Done this several times, if done in a single day it is always long hard pound down the Sperry Trail at the end of the day. Much more pleasant to spend the night at the Chalet if possible.

Have completed this route a couple of times. This is one of the most amazing trips in Glacier.

Floral Park from Logan Pass  Sucess!

Great solo trip. I saw two people early in the day, but lost them when I entered the slot going down to Floral. It took about 11 hours.

Floral Park  Sucess!

loved every minute of it! after dropping a car at Lake McDonald and dealing with construction/traffic, we unforutnately started from Logan Pass around 11 am. plodded along all day, with just a few brief stops here and there for snacks and water, and ended up hiking down from Sperry Chalet in the dark, completing the route just after 10 pm. Sperry Glacier Basin might be the most spectacular place I've visited in the park.

Also on August 28th, 2010. Intended to climb Gunsight Mountain, but falling snow at Comeau Pass thwarted our plans.

Also on September 1st, 2012. There is a very large lake beneath an impressive red cliff very near the end of the glacier traverse. In my previous two trips, we climbed up and over this hump on loose class III ledges with fair exposure. Our group was inequipped for glacier travel, so when we reached this lake we opted to head west towards the Little Matterhorn. I highly recommend this route! We hiked around several beautiful lakes and had lunch in a glorious rocky meadow staring at Little Matterhorn. Far and away one of the most exciting day trips in the park!

Floral Park  Sucess!

Did this great trip twice with the OTHG. The second time Vern Ingraham and I climbed Mt Edwards while waiting for some of the more relaxed hikers to catch up!
