A nice easy one  Sucess!

I lead a Sierra Club trip over Piute Pass to climb the peak from Humphreys Basin. A very enjoyable outing.

From Desolation lake  Sucess!

Took the easy way up from Desolation Lake. The only hard part was a little bushwacking a little ways above the lake. High winds on the top forced us down early, but the views were amazing.

South slope starting L Lake  Sucess!

From a high camp at L Lake, crossed Steelhead Pass to access the south slope. Very windy up high. Found the correct summit on only my second attempt of several high spots. Nice view over to Mt. Tom.

Four Gables-Pilot Knob dayhike out of North Lake--a long and thoroughly enjoyable tour of Humphreys Basin. Climbed Peak 12,801 by mistake before following the South Ridge to the lower named point and the summit register. (I'm not the only one to make this mistake--the summit register spent several years on Peak 12,801 before being relocated recently).

Views are better from Peak 12,801 than Four Gables, and it's a nice scramble along the ridge too, so I don't regret the mistake...

Route Climbed: South Ridge, descended East Ridge Date Climbed: August 3rd, 2004  Sucess!

An easy stroll from South Basin Mountain. The East Ridge could be an enjoyable route to climb up with some snow cover. I still don't understand why the official summit with the register is lower than two other nearby points that are higher. Also, from the valley it only looks like one gable - the rest of the ridge just rolls like a wave. Go figure :-)
