Great climb with the best views I've had from any mountain of Tahoe. Surprised at the amount of snow, and it got very cold at the summit so we didn't stay as long as we planned. Otherwise a very straightforward hike with some fun climbing along the way. The drive round trip from Reno was longer than the hike round trip.

Date Climbed: Oct 26, 2013
Intended to take the Armstrong Pass route but made a wrong turn and took the much steeper Trout Creek trail followed by the offtrail climb up to the TRT. After Freel went over to Jobs Sister, but ran out of time before I could get to Jobs Peak. Trip report at http://www.mountainhiker.org/trip_report.aspx?id=109

Hiked Freel Peak and Jobs Sister today with son and friend from Placerville. We started from the Horse Meadow Trailhead off FS051 (near the Luther Pass Summit). Locate the trailhead about 4 miles up FS051...you will cross a bridge and creek. Pull over and park immediately. Look down the creek and you will see a foot bridge over the creek and the start of the trail. Follow up to the first trail merge/junction (TRT) and follow right towards Star Lake. This will lead you to another trail merge at a saddle...to the right you will see a sign for Freel Peak (1 mile) follow up and you are there...it took us about 2.5 hours from the start to get here. To the east from the summit you will see Jobs Sister...follow the path down to the saddle and the trail to the top of this peak...about 35 minutes. Fairly easy hike for fit experienced Sierra hikers! Enjoy...on this day the visibility was compromised because of the Yosemite Rim Fire and the smoke that has been in the area for weeks. Laslty, highly recommend a 4 wheel drive vehicle with some clearance for FS051.

Car couldn't get past a rough patch on the route to Armstrong Pass so Ambret and I drove around the other side of the mountain and had a very pleasant hike to the summit. Then we went down, over and up to Jobs Sister Peak, back down, over and up to Freel's summit again, and back to the car. Nice day, great scenery.

Several years ago now, my first 10K+ peak. I remember almost throwing up several times due to dizziness at altitude. Started at the Oneidas gate, walked all the way to Armstrong Pass, then all the way up to the "Freel Pass" saddle. Made it much longer than necessary. Linked up with Jobs Sister.

Managed Freel Peak, Job's Peak and Job's Sister from Luther Pass. All cross country and quite a sandy slog in some spots...especially up Job's Sister.

Doing this hike 2 days after having climbed Shasta left me totally spent. However, the views of Tahoe and the Carson Range from the summit were more than worth it. Glad to have notched another county highpoint!

Camped at Fallen Leaf Lake CG on 8/25/2012. Hiked with Andy Li. Our plan was to hike the 3 peaks in this area - (Freel, Jobs & Sister). We did not make to the Jobs since it was very windy and Andy felt tired. Next time!

The road in to Horse Meadow is rough, especially at the beginning -- had to switch to 4WD. Sand slog up but fun descent. Register is an ammo box packed with logbooks and scraps of paper, all full -- had to scribble my name in a corner.

Can't remember when I climbed this. We took the trail up and then my friend decided to take us down the other side. We bushwacked through the backcountry and saw lots of wild cows. Somehow we made it back to the car. Crazy fun!

Date Climbed: Jun 23, 2012
For something different, we started at Kingsbury Grade on the Tahoe Rim Trail and hiked that to a bit past Star Lake, then hiked up what I will call the cable line canyon (the cables that used to serve the relay station that once was on Freel's summit poke up from the ground in places here), reaching the saddle just E of Freel. After tagging Freel, we tagged Jobs Sister and Jobs, then descended E to Carson Valley to complete the trip. It was a very windy day!

Took the Fay-Luther trail to Jobs peak, then hit Jobs Sister, and then on to Freel just over six thousand feet above the trailhead. A pretty tough hike thanks to the saddle between Jobs Peak and Jobs Sister -- total upward elevation gain for the day ended up around 8500 feet. Weather was excellent and the ground was mostly snow free.

Thought I could sneak in a climb before the snow really came, but there was some fresh snow and my Camry couldnt make it anywhere near the trout creek trailhead.
Parked lower down, but it was a 2 hour hike to the trailhead and I ran out of daylight.
Pretty scenery tho, and had the place to myself.

What a day...started on forest service rd. 51 with my husband & girlfriend heading clockwise towards Freel. We road the saddle to Job's Sister loving the views! The down from Job's sister was pretty steep...my quads complained for a few days afterwards...made it to Job's Peak which was shrouded in cloud! Managed to descend before the bad weather showed up!Loved the day~
