Approach
Coming from Sage Flat:
From the trail head, go up and over Olancha Pass, joining the PCT 6.3 miles from the trailhead. Take the right fork (the PCT) and head north. Shortly you come to second junction with a trail heading left to Monache Meadows, but continue on the PCT. The trail climbs up and across two saddles. After the first one, you may confuse Peak 11,306ft with Olancha. This minor peak to the south of Olancha is mostly tree-covered and not terribly impressive. Don't be fooled! After crossing a second saddle you should see the real Olancha Peak looming up on your right (NE), approximately 3.2 miles from the junction with the Monache Meadows Trail.
From Monache Meadows:
From the corrals, hike 3.3 miles up to the PCT. Follow this north for 3.2 miles to Olancha Peak.
Route Description
The PCT traverses across the class 1-2 western slope of Olancha Peak. You can leave the trail anywhere along here and head up to the summit. There appears to be no regular use trail along the route. Easy route-finding can keep you on no more than class 2 all the way to the summit, but there are some interesting class 3 sections near the summit if you want to add some measure of excitement.
Essential Gear
None needed. It can easily be climbed in tennis shoes.
Miscellaneous Info
If you have information about this route that doesn't pertain to any of the other sections, please add it here.
