2nd Ascent  Sucess!

Second time via Villager. Greg and I left the parking area at five a.m. hoping the full moon would help. Cloud cover made that not so helpful. In fact, we began to worry the we might be rained on, thus turning the trip into an epic. Rain in the area never reached us, and by the time we were on Villager it began to clear over head, while rain continued on the mountains to the west. I made Rabbit, while Greg peeled off for Ruth Benchmark. Headlamps came out on Villager, which we reached on our return trip about 5:45 p.m., and we descended in the dark, only to find a parking ticket on both of our cars. We were maybe 20' inside some arbitrary boundary. So a $71.50 fine for each of us.

Nice desert hike  Sucess!

Hiked with mdostby. We made it to Villager in 4 hrs at a leisurely pace. Took a lunch break here. Then, after 2 more hours of hiking, I got to the top of a peak which I thought what just another bump in the ridge and then kept going for another 10 min towards what I thought was Rabbit Peak to the NW was actually Lorenzens Peak. Turned back and the bump on ridge was Rabbit Peak. Signed the summit register which is on top of a boulder. Four hrs later was back at the trailhead parking lot.

Scorcher  Sucess!

We planned trip for cold spell and a full moon taking the Villager route. So much for planning as full moon had an eclipse and cold spell ended day before hike.

It was hot. So hot that the air entering your lungs felt hot. I went with Murray and Greg but I was the only one stubborn enough (stupid enough?) to make it to Rabbit. We all made Villager. I needed to conserve water nearly half the way up to Rabbit and all the way down and encountered heat exhaustion that forced me to bivy between Villager and Rabbit. Fun Trip? Actually I was disappointed by Rabbit's summit/view, but still glad I did it. If I were to do it again it would be in cooler part of the year (Nov through April).

Villager Peak Only  Sucess!

Great desert climb...Didn't go all the way to Rabbit Peak but would rather do that from the east anyway. Highly recommended for anybody looking to climb in the Anza-Borrego Desert Park.
