Ice cragging + slog to top  Sucess!

With Cletus. Late start from the parking lot across from the turnoff to the ski area. Hiked up the road to Sveroi cabin and then cross country to the Gausta ice crag. Snow was pretty firm, so luckily no floatation needed. Climbed a couple of the routes at the crag (it was really cold, ice was super brittle), and then slogged up the north face in the afternoon, which turned out to be a decent snow climb. Ran back down to the road via the NE slopes. Fun outing.

Mucho Gausta

Car to summit in 1:40. Nice ridge traverse on top, and of course the famous view is all that people say it is. The primary factor must be off the chart.

Beautiful Climb  Sucess!

Enjoyed the unseasonably good weather with about 2,000 other hikers. Great views the entire day!

several runs up  Sucess!

A beuatiful mountain indeed. First climb (running) in summer 1993, where we went to the real peak along the narrow edge. Again during christmas '05 (telemark skies), '06 (running on snow crust) and '07 (snow shoes). Stopped at the false peaks in the winter ascents.

one more try  Sucess!

Went back and made it to the summit. Windy and some snow, but visibility were not that bad. No views though. Funny thing about this mountain is that 90% (maybe more) turn back 15-20 minutes before the summit because of the cafeteria which seems to be the goal for most of the hikers. However, it is the last summitridge which makes this an interesting trip. Some people even seems to believe that the cafeteria is the summit. They miss out..

no visibility

Turned back at about 1600 meters due to severe wind, and more importantly; almost no visibility. Most of the walk on snow. No other footprints to be seen up there that day. Summited this mountain in July 05 though with people all over the place.Much more fun with tough weather. Next time I will summit no matter what.

Route Climbed: Circumnavigated the massif, but normal route to summit Date Climbed: September 2002  Sucess!

We got the first snow on the season, so it was a bit slippery. My girlfriend stopped at the false summit, I went to the main summit. It almost cleared up a couple of times, but I never got the famous view.

Route Climbed: South Ridge Date Climbed: 21st February 2004

Gaustablikk to the false summit on skis. To the real summit would be another almost horizontal 100m along a very narrow ridge.

Probably the best view from a mountain top I have ever seen. Clear sky, some scattered cloud. Windy.

Great descent, even if the snow was not that fresh. Sandra and myself on alpine touring gear beat all the telemarkers.

It might be the largest view in Norway.
