Thanks for the non cactus-obscured view of Gavilan. Can you upgrade your log to a route description? This page has been a bit hamstrung because I got the pix second hand and quizzed the photographer figured out the mtn. having never visited Arizona.

I have attempted this peak once, unsuccessfully due to the mistake of bringing my 12-year-old niece along. It became very steep near the top and I did not feel comfortable with her ability or choice of shoes so we turned back. The only approach that we found was on the east side of the peak. We followed a dirt road until we saw a gap between 2 properties that did not have a fence. We parked just off the road and started up. There is no trail besides what looked like some cattle trails around the base. About ¾ of the way up it became so steep that I was only able to take one or the steps up the loose rack and gravel at a time, grab onto a large rock and go again. This was a bit much for my niece so we turned back. I am planning a second attempt once cooler weather returns.
