Dayhike  Sucess!

Short hike after driving most of the way in. A beautiful summit marred by too much equipment and a perpetual gas generator running all of it.

via Mountain Bike  Sucess!

After-work AACC ride from North Kingsbury TH, to the Bench via TRT singletrack, with Genoa Peak add-on the way back. That road is a lung buster on the bike! Nice to tick this one off, as it's so visible from the Valley.

Genoa Peak  Sucess!

Hiked through ankle deep snow from the TRT Kingsbury North TH, up the Genoa Peak Rd then down the TRT. Vehicles, other hikers, and a fat tire e-bike broke trail for me so that was nice. The TRT would have been very hard to follow without that e-bike's track in the snow to follow. There were almost no trail markers.

Oh, and the distance to the summit from the TH as described on the main page here is off. It's 4.8 miles to the road you turn off onto as mentioned in the route description. 5.5 miles total to the summit along the road.

2 Getting into Shape Hikers & 1 already in shape  Sucess!

So you know the perspective this is being written. Two 'getting back into shape" hikers, ages 58 & 61 and one young, very much in shape 32 year old. So, first thing to note is that the map distances don't seem all that accurate. Tahoe Rim Trail from Spooner, to "the bench" according the map given to us by the ranger, should have been 5.5 miles. It was actually over 7 according to 3 different devices we had on us. Not a problem but did have us wondering if we had missed that cutoff. Fortunately my son did some wandering ahead and back to make sure we were on track. The views from the bench (you'll know it when you see it :) ) are stunning! From there we continued on until finding that cut-across to the genoa peak forest road. You can't miss Genoa Peak as the antenna array makes it quite obvious. Ok...so if you are not in shape and have one hiker not use to elevation that last bit up the hill might be less than fun on a hot day but we made it anyway! Since I had already heard that there didn't seem to be a cache of any kind we didn't spend to much time looking. My youngest son and I were always going to make this hike when he beat cancer but unfortunately that was not to be. So we memorialized him in our own way, took pics and enjoyed looking all the way from Washoe Valley to Carson Valley on the east. To Desolation Wilderness on the south and of course amazing views of all of Lake Tahoe and the Sierra's beyond. Next time we do this hike I'll bring along a geo-cache with a climbers log for you all to sign. Might be next year before I do that. I'll post again when I do. From there we hiked over to Kingsbury grade and were thrilled to be picked up promptly! That big old steak & salad we had that night were reallllly appreciated!! As my sister (with two really bad knees recently shot up with orthovisc) and I are in the inchworm category the entire hike took us about 8 hours to hike the approx. 13 miles :). This is a beautiful hike and would do again anytime!

OGUL Roundup  Sucess!

From Spooner Summit, a fun hike which included the unworthy White Hill along with Duane Bliss, Genoa and South Camp peaks. Took the TRT until hooking up with Genoa Road, then followed that until striking off cross country up Genoa which was not as steep as Duane Bliss. TR is HERE.

From Spooner Summit  Sucess!

Still a LOT of snow on the ground. Followed the tracks of a snow-cat up Genoa Peak Road after losing the TRT in the heavy snow.

Pics and trip report from the 2009 outing are here.
And the 2010 outing is here.

Tough day  Sucess!

Getting up there was pretty easy from Spooner Summit. Getting down was a different matter. Snow conditions were very bad. It was very hard to follow the Tahoe Rim Trail; or the road.
