Glacier Peak

Glacier Peak

Glacier Peak, as seen from the south - our route is in red, we were turned back near the top of Cool Glacier; the scrambling route up Disappointment Peak is shown in green, but we saw several incidents of rockfall that day and decided without helmets it wasn't worth the risk. August 2007.

Thanks, cp59 !

So ... that's what you did? A
climber needs to make split-second
decisions. The Disappointment Peak
route looks very steep, from here.
Can you estimate the degree of
slope? Were the glaciers breaking
up & melting, on this side of
Glacier Peak? Truly ... AMAZING!

Re: Thanks, cp59 !

Hey, thanks for the comments. Yup, we followed the route in red; at the point we jumped onto the snow/glacier, you're right, Disappointment looked pretty steep, (maybe wrongly) we thought our detour off-route might be easier. Oh well. As for the glaciers, it was late summer, Labor Day weekend, so I'd assume they were near the lowest levels for the year.

Cheers, thanks again for the comments. Can't wait for next summer when hopefully I can make it back out to the PNW again...
