This was actually my third time to the summit. Previously climbed 5/25/75 and 5/30/76. I guess I love suffering (the outstanding view makes it worth the effort). The south ridge has a bit of class 3 here and there to enjoy (see photos). The previous climbs were both up from 'Munger Pass'.
Hiked up the 2nd weekend after Roads End opened up and camped solo at Grouse Lake. The trail was mostly snow free until 7500 feet, and solid coverage above 9000 feet. Perfect weather and views, and was lucky enough to see a bear nearby on the way down.
