Golden Eagle | [ Sizes: Orig | Med | Small | Thumb ] |
Although certainly not a bird expert I think it's a Golden Eagle soaring over the San Antonio Canyon as seen on my way up Stoddard Peak's south ridge. March 2009 Comments[ Post a Comment ] | yatsek | Good Luck | |
Voted 10/10 | Was it good luck or do you often see them? I'm not a twitcher either but I've always been a fan of eagles as they belong in the mountainous trove. From my (EU) perspective, yours does look like an adult golden eagle.
Cheers,

Hasn't voted | Thanks Jacek, I don't see them too often but it was certainly not the first time either. It's just that this time I had the right zoom lens with me. Cheers, Guido | | Posted Mar 11, 2009 12:15 pm |

Hasn't voted | I'm also fairly certain that is a golden eagle. It takes bald eagles several years to develop their white head, so a juvenile bald eagle can sometimes be mistaken for a golden eagle. However, this photo looks like a full grown adult, so more than likely a golden. | | Posted Mar 11, 2009 8:08 am |

Hasn't voted | Thanks Ejnar. Yes, it really is a very majestic bird. I was watching it for many minutes as it was circling above me. Cheers, Guido | | Posted Mar 11, 2009 12:17 pm |

Hasn't voted | Thanks for the comment. I shot it at 270mm on a Nikon D90 body (so in fact closer to 400mm on a full frame body). Cheers. | | Posted Mar 11, 2009 2:30 pm |

Voted 10/10 | on seeing the Golden Eagle! Years back, when I
worked in Sequoia NP, I was hiking near Moose
Lake and saw one descending on a marmot.
Of course, I didn't have my camera at the time.

| Mark Doiron | Golden Eagle--I Agree | |
Voted 10/10 | Yes, I agree it's a golden eagle. These are huge birds. I stumbled on one near Black Mesa, OK. It was in the middle of a stoop, grabbing a prairie dog right out of its guard position in a hole. My son and I were driving down the road when it saw us, dropping that poor little guy. Amazing sight--wish I'd been in a position to photograph it. I like yours--thanks for sharing! --mark d. | | Posted Mar 12, 2009 7:13 am |

Hasn't voted | Thanks Mark. Yes, they are majestic and beautiful indeed. This one circled for several minutes over the slopes obviously looking for some prey. But as far as I saw without any luck. Cheers, Guido | | Posted Mar 12, 2009 12:29 pm |

Voted 10/10 | ... soar above you, one can never forget their mastery. Similar great birds in Italy. | | Posted Nov 2, 2009 3:28 pm |
