This was a doozy of a day. Came up from Roostercomb, Lower & Upper Wolfjaw, Armstrong. Got socked in beginning at Lower Wolfjaw and had a nasty descent down the cables (3 of our 6 fell). Cut our day short and skipped Saddleback and Basin, heading down to Orr Bed Shelter instead. Nothing but rain and slippery conditions with no visibility. It was great. Looking forward to getting back there in better weather conditions.

Brian PierzRoute Climbed: Range Trail from Armstrong Date Climbed: September 25, 2004  Sucess!

Brian Pierz

Last of three on the day, from Upper Wolf Jaw and Armstrong. Tackled this one with the ROTM gang: Mike, Tom, Mr. Baio, and Chris. We hoped to lounge around on top for a while and do a dusk ascent, but the rain and hard winds sent us back down the mountain. The views were good, but on a sunny day I bet they're fantastic.

The cables are back, and I had never seen the originals, but these more resembled a long garden hose. Real handy on the slick wet rock though. Also handy are the new Tabasco-flavored Cheese-its, they're so tasty.

Part of a long, 24-mile day hike. My favorite mountain out of all of them.

Oh man what a perfect day. Hiked up along the Ausable from St Huberts. Excellent fall color up high. It had snowed for a couple of days previously and the snowline was around 3,000'. The great range was crusted with snow and ice, making conditions pretty treacherous. We went up Gothics, then traversed down along the great range hitting Armstrong, Upper Wolfjaw, and lower Wolfjaw before descending back down into the Ausable river vallley. Adirondack hiking is so much fun.

Descended from Armstrong to the col between Armstrong and Gothics. With only a few hours of daylight left and over 5 miles to the car at the Ausable Club, Gothics was still too close and too good to pass up. Enjoyed the easy hike up and the spectacular views from the top. View rating is well-deserved. Was dark by the time we reached the car, a great day for 4 peaks in the Adirondacks.

Dropped our packs in the col and ran to the summit with a camera, and one water bottle. People on the summit thought we were nuts. We didn't let on that our packs were .3 miles below us.

The views of this magnificent peak from Pyramid(its subpeak) are better than the views from the summit because Gothics is a more interesting mountian to look at. I did not stay on the summit long because I still had three peaks remaining to reach on this day.

mike_lindacherRoute Climbed: Gothics via Pyramind (Weld Trail) Date Climbed: Last = May 25th, 2003  Sucess!

mike_lindacher

One of the premier peaks in the Range and in all of the Adirondacks, climbing an adjacent peak for a view of Gothics is almost as impressive as the sights from its summit. View from the western spur of Pyramind provides great looks at the southwestern slides. Southern route via Orebed is exceptional in winter.

This was my second time climbing Gothics (for description of my first time, check the route I posted from Lake Road). Tacked it on after climbing Sawteeth. View from Pyramid is amazing, and the view from the true summit ain't to shabby either. Headed down via the Beaver Meadow Trail. The bus picked us up on Lake Road when we got down to the road! How nice!

Have made two ascents of this summit. Both from Johns Brook and Ausable club direction. Incredible views in all directions. One of my favorate climbs.

Make sure to make the trek over to the Pyramid nearby as its view is the finest in the Adirondacks. The views from Pyramid and Gothics is pure poetry for the eyes.
