Route Climbed: South Kaibab-Bright Angel Date Climbed: 27th March 2005  Sucess!

A wonderful hike, A nice kaleidoscopic tour from the reddish sandstone colors of the upper cliffs to the green of the Tonto plateau and finally the 'lost world' views of the cliffs immediately above the Colorado river. 8hr 45min. trailhead to trailhead.

Route Climbed: Grandview Trail and Hermit & Boucher Trails Date Climbed: March 1999

We day hiked these two trails from the south rim trailheads while we were overnighting in a motel in Tusayan. On the Grandview we hiked down to Horseshoe Mesa and Pete Berry's cabin ruins. On the way up we came across a backpacking group that had a hiker suffering from dehydration (yes, even in March!). They had sent someone back to the rim for help and as we neared the rim we saw a helicopter land on the mesa to pluck off the poor guy.

Two days later we hiked down the Hermit and Boucher Trails to a turnaround below Yuma Point, for a nice 10 mile RT hike. Where the Boucher trail circumnavigates the head of Hermit Creek gorge, the trail is exposed in places, so watch your step.

Route Climbed: Bright Angel Trail Date Climbed: June 9,1999  Sucess!

Great hike, great day. We did down and back in a day. We were well prepared with head lamps and such. Made a great day hike. Down past about a mile the tourists thinned out a lot. We managed to hike up faster than we hiked down.

Route Climbed: Rim-to-Rim-to-Rim Date Climbed: October 22, 2004  Sucess!

Two of my friends and I decided to hike Grand Canyon from South Rim to North Rim and back in a day. We hiked the Kaibab Trail, 2.5 miles shorter than Bright Angel. The total distance was ca. 42 miles (plus another mile or so from where we parked and back). It took us 20 hrs. 15 min. Not a speed record but still a good accomplishment considering that each one of us had only about 1 -1.5 hr of sleep the night before in a car on the way from Vegas to Grand Canyon.. The goal for next year is 16 hrs. It's a very beautiful hike, especially at night with the moonlight.

Route Climbed: Several different South Side routes. Date Climbed: Many Times  Sucess!

Aww, the Grand Canyon. Most excellent. Have hiked it more times than I remember - probably around 8 or 9 times. Highlights include:

- first time being 9years old; carried my own sleeping gear!; snowed on us as we neared the top; I remember washing dishes directly in Bright Angel creek, and getting drinking water from the same (the old days).

- 5 day trek along the Plateau past Hermits Rest; eating fresh rattle snake (someone else chose to kill it), still have the skin as my hatband.

- spending my 18th birthday evening on the beach beside the river, with suprise champagne and banana cake; plus we saw the aroura borialis that night (a rare occurrance that far south - and we thought it was the champagne!).

- round trip trail run, including a 2hour/57minute split from the north side of the silver bridge to topping out on BrightAngel south.

- a 20mile trail run during a layover day at the bottom; ran BrightAngel North from river to above rushing springs and back (we're shooting for the NRim, but trail was closed).

- taking my 4yrs & 5yrs daughters a whole mile down and back up the Bright Angel South; and not loosing either one of the over the side!

Bet I'll be back! ;-)

Round trip to the river and back in the same day. 92 degrees at the bottom and lots of sunshine. Only one mule encounter and not many other people below Skeleton Point. I may have been the only one hiking back up South Kaibab. 6hr. 5min. roundtrip.

Route Climbed: mostly S. Kaibab & Bright Angel Date Climbed: many  Sucess!

Finally decided to start going back to the canyon recently - the beauty outweighs the burden of being around tourists and most of them never leave the rim anyway. Hoping to do a rim to rim soon, and some of the lesser traveled trails.

Route Climbed: North & South Rim Date Climbed: May 1993 & Aug 2004  Sucess!

Did the GCNP North Rim to River in May 1993 w/ 5 friends. Stayed in the canyon at the Deer Creek Campground (tons of gnats!) for 3 days and visited the mighty Thunder River. Just did the canyon again (Aug 2004) on the South Rim. Went down to Havasu Falls, Mooney Falls, and Beaver Falls.

Route Climbed: South Kaibab Date Climbed: Feb. 2003  Sucess!

After an early morning snow, crawled out of the tent, packed up and hiked down Bright Angel to the camp across the silver bridge to spend the night. Then up the South Kaibab the next day. A great experience! Next time though, I'll try a route not used by the mules.
