ChrisA R2R2R though the fires of hell!  Sucess!
Date Climbed: May 12, 2007

Chris

A 51 mile Rim to Rim to Rim with Michael(smudge), Chris(miztflip), Eric(thebeave7), Charles(CharlesD), Kari, and Joy. Unbelievably hot (110-ish) day made conditions less than ideal.

Can't wait to get back this fall (Oct/Nov) for a shot at a sub-12 hour double crossing!

Did the one day full 50 miles, starting at the Bright Angel TH, down S Kaibab, to N Kaibab, back up Bright Angel. Temps were atrocious, probably the hottest day of the year, and near record temps. Midday peaked at over 110 in the Box and around Phantom Ranch. The heat hit us all pretty hard, making the return trip slow, very very slow. Hiked with Chris, CharlesD, Chris F(Mitzflip), Michael(Smudge), and Kari. Definitely would not do that again under those temps.

South Rim to Phantom Ranch. We stayed at the Bright Angel Campground. Great four day trip. You have to love a hike that you can get a cold beer at the end of the trail

Visited this popular place. But will hike Rim to River and back at least. If I have enough energy and days, I will do Rim to Rim to Rim.

Hiked to the river and back up with my parents and brothers. We took turns supporting our parents up the last few miles as their knees were shot, the sun was going down, and there was still patchy snow on the ground. Good bonding experience and a fun hike.

There was fresh snow on the trail going down, and of course the rangers said crampons were necessary, but not having any, I went ahead and did it anyway, with no problem. Just over 6 hours roundtrip. A great hike, fabulous views.

Wow, this hike was amazing. Decsended the South Kaibab, and the colors were something else. Camped at Phantom Ranch and came back up Bright Angel the next day. Coming up was grueling. I can't beleive my dad made it. Hats off to him. Its a must-do hike.

Hike from the North rim to the river and back 30(?) miles and the last 5 are the steapest. It was nice soaking my feet in the ice cold river. Nice to be able to buy a cold drink and make a call from Phantom Ranch.

With only a few hours to spare on the road trip, I hiked around the rim from the village to watch the sun drop below the horizon. Hopefully will be back next summer to spend more time at this amazing place.

Took my wife and son to Phantom Ranch for Christmas dinner. What an awesome spread. We spent three nights at Bright Angle campground lounging around and playing with my 18 month old son Adam. It was his first over night trip into the backcountry. Planned to take two days climbing out but the weather took a turn for the worst. Instead of staying one more night at Indian Gardens we pushed on to the top. We got within a mile of the south rim before the snow started.Grand Canyon pics and a passing mule train video

What an amazing run! Did a one-day R2R2R double-crossing with Peter Sanders (pksander), Todd Croke, and Yasuyo Kitano (Todd and Yasuyo did S Rim to Cottonwood and back for 32 miles). Went down the Bright Angel, up the N Kaibob to the N Rim, back down the N Kaibob to the river and out via S Kaibob. Totals: 17hrs 30min, 46 miles, 11,300' of elevation gain. Amazing... a must-do ultrarunning classic!!
