Bright Angel and S Kaibab  Sucess!

I've made 5 trips to the bottom over the years. They were all a lot of fun, but my favorite trip was with my Dad.

Beautiful Hiking  Sucess!

nearly rim to rim headed down the south kaibab trail and back up the bright angel trail. We stayed 3 nights and 'almost' made it to the north rim but our cocktail of travelers were not motivated. Great trip!

Spectacular!  Sucess!

Did the Lava Falls trail with some friends. That sign at the begining of the trail means what it says. Take lots of water! We ran out on the way back. I have also done the South Kiabab a few years ago.

Southern Side  Sucess!

Made a number of hiking trips, mostly Bright Angel to Phantom Ranch area(campground) Indian Gardens, Plateau Point, etc. Also got to get a tour of air quality monitoring the park does, most impressive. The day I was there was a clear day they have about 3 percent of the time. Have also made the hike into Supai.

The Canyon  Sucess!

Rim to rim as part of Everett Ruess Trail. Hiked into a closed north rim in April of 2001--had the campground on Bright Angel Point all to myself--not a single other camper there. Hiked into the canyon via North Kaibab trail and up to the South Rim via the South Kaibab.

Many other times while living in Flagstaff.

Can't Stand It...  Sucess!

The Grand Canyon itself is amazing, but I can't stand all the people at the beginning who are visiting and think because they've read the warning signs they can lecture you on if you're prepared enough... and I was. I was having trouble realizing how big the canyon really was when I started, then once I finished and looked down I could really take it all in.

rim2rim, yawn  Sucess!

First time, it was unseasonably hot; 114F at the ranch.

Second time (2007) was great, until I got a horrible case of food poisoning after eating tepid pizza at the N Rim.

Yes, it is very pretty and amazing, and that's how I felt the 1st time around. But the 2nd time, I also noticed the mule poop a lot, and the vast hordes of people doing the same thing.

Rim to Rim to Rim  Sucess!

Hiked rim to rim to rim on a beautiful autumn weekend; started from North Rim; spent night at South Rim via Bright Angel Trail; returned next day via South Kaibab to North Kaibab; total time approx 36 hours with one night's sleep. Have also hiked numerous times to river via Hermit Trail, North Kaibab, Bright Angel, South Kaibab, (Plateau Point). R to R to R ending at N Kaibab, May 29 to May 30, 2008.
R to R to R Oct. 24 to Oct.25, 2008. Tough hike this time. Came up North Kaibab Trail in the dark alone because the North side of the Grand Canyon is technically "closed".
January 2, 2009 Grandview Loop to Tonto Trail, 13 miles total.
May 23-24, 2009 R2R2R in 2 days.
August 1-2, 2009: R2R2R in 2 days.
Oct 17, 2009. R2R2R total time: 16 hours 36 minutes, down S Kaibab, up to the North Rim in 7 hours 24 minutes, with a return up Bright Angel from the North Rim in 9 hours 12 minutes. 45 miles total.

South Kaibab and Grandview  Sucess!

What you have to pay attention to is Ringtail cats.
They love to go through your backpack at night. Also,
a friend of mine was wearing flip-flops at the bottom
of the canyon, and got stung on the bottom of his foot
by a scorpion. Had to be escorted back up the trail
by rangers. Summer can be a challenging time to go.

Not so Bright Angel  Sucess!

Breakfasted at the rim on last day of a trip and was talked into a same day rim to river and back trip via Bright Angel, prior to our midnight flight. We scampered down (those warning signs don't apply to us, we thought)and had a nice lunch at Pine Creek Beach on the river. The trudge back up was long, hard and heat strokey. We deserved every broiling inch of it.

Hot.  Sucess!

I did the south to north hike during the first week of July. The scenery was awesome, but I spent most of my time cooling off in creeks. The rangers recommend this as a 4-day hike. I'd either crank it out in a day or pull a single overnight.

Hike For Discovery  Sucess!

I was part of the "Hikers In Training" team. We trained for 4 months while raising money for the Leukemia/Lymphoma Society. It was a very rewarding experience. We hiked the Hermit Trail to Dripping Springs and back. (South rim)
