| I did this as a solo hike. Was not familiar with Squaw Valley so I was never quite sure what I was aiming for. Granite Chief Trail is tough to follow as there are a number of little offshoot trails (and everyone I met said they screwed it up too). I ended up going up the Shirley Lake Canyon by accident but found my way to Emigrant Pass and up Granite Chief. Back on track and descended via Granite Chief Trail. Much adventure for a simple day hike due to my route finding error. Amazing views made it all worthwhile!!! | |

| This was a long hike, but a very pretty one. It was late in the season, so no snow was to be found anywhere. | |
