odogg0824Nice day on Grays  Sucess!

The road to the trailhead really can't be called a "road" It's more like a training ground for trench warfare. We were lucky to hitch a ride up and down. The trail itself is great. Grays is a great workout and is an easy combo with Torreys if you afford yourself the time to do it.

Down standard trail and back to Bakersville. My estimate was that over 100 people climbed or attempted Grays that day and this was a Thursday.

Went late to avoid the crowds because it didn't look like t-storms. We were right and didn't see a person above 12k feet. Nice afternoon.

Up the standard trail from Stevens Gulch. Rental car wouldn't make it, but hitching a ride was easy. After four days hiking in CO, I'm beginning to think that almost all the locals owns a dog or two, and brings them on the trail. Kinda fun. I wish I had my dog, too. She would love this stuff.

Standard route up to the saddle to Torreys, then Grays. Lots of snow but some people were still in sneakers. As one trip report was titled, the road is tougher than the hike.

Conditions were great. The best glissading of my life off the saddle of Torreys and Grays. A very fun climb!

This was my first 14er climb (in 1994). The trail is well-marked and accessible. We had fantastic blue-sky weather that day and there were a lot of people on the mountain. Loved it.

We had a group of 6, everyone had a great time. There was about 3 inches of fresh snow in the couloir with a wet consolidated layer underneath. Crampons were not needed since the conditions were ideal for kicking steps.

Went with a big group up Grey's (standard hiking route). Had intentions of doing Torrey's as well, but most weren't up for it.

Stared fairly early on a very clear morning in order to avoid potential thunderstorms. Unfortunately one arrived early building at 10:30. Worked our way down quickly near the bottom lightning arrived. Glad we got off the peak and did not attempt to do Torreys on this outing.

Took the Chihuahua Gulch trailhead up the valley to Grays/Torreys. Originally had planned on doing Torreys but we saw a sweet snow coulior up the (east?) side of Grays. Got up to the top of it and found it did indeed connect with the SW ridge to the summit. On average 40-50 degree angled snow climb and then just a class 2 ridge. Great day racking up another winter 14er :)

Climbed Grays from the winter trailhead with folks from 14erworld.com. Excellent conditions - blue bird skies, low to moderate winds, and cold temperatures. Snowshoes needed from the summer trailhead for about 1-2 miles - then ditched them in the nearby rock. Planned to attempt Torreys but toes got really cold. Overall a great day and a first in winter!
