| After a long approach from Seathwaite over Esk Hause, ascended Scafell via a scramble up Cam Spout Crag, then a scary descent (solo & unroped) down Broad End, to ascend Scafell Pike (for 2nd time) and then took in summits of Ill Crag and Great End before descending back down Esk Hause again and on to Seathwaite. | |

| ... on a long day. I had camped at Red Tarn and started the day hiking up and over Crinkle Crags, and followed the ridge all the way to Scafell Pike. I dropped my pack on the saddle south of Great End, and without it, it was a short and easy stroll up to the large summit plateau. There were two big cairns up there, one on the north and one more to the east. My altimeter gave the same altitude for both. For the record: shortly before reaching the saddle, coming from the east, the track crossed a small stream. The water was clear, but since there were sheep and people around, I filtered it before drinking. It was the last water source that I saw before I would come down from Scafell Pike. It would have been a fine camp site too, but it was still early in the day. | |
