Great Sand Dunes | [ Sizes: Orig | Large | Med | Small | Thumb ] |

One of my most favorite images I have. This is a 4 photo pano of the sand dunes and Mount Seven at sunset on March 3rd, 2007. I hiked almost 3 miles out into the dune field and set up my tripod all over the place until I felt comfortable with the composition. The wind was blowing at about 20 mph which made it difficult to keep the camera still for consecutive shots. If you look close in the bottom left, where the sun is beaming into the image, you'll see the sand blowing across the dune, its the silky effect that makes that portion of the photo sort of cool to look at. After hiking back to my car in the dark, I spent about an hour cleaning the sand from myself and camera. It's amazing where i found sand. That stuff is evil.
The photos were taken from a dune next door to the beautiful Star Dune. Comments[ Post a Comment ] | Bill Reed | Great shot!! | |

Hasn't voted | Thanks Bill for the comment. It was a tough shot to get, and frankly I feel lucky to have it today. It was worth the effort.
I added a bit of explanation as to how I got the shot in the text since you last visited. | | Posted Mar 24, 2007 5:44 pm |

Voted 10/10 | ...for this summer, if I'm not mistaken. Isn't that Crestone Peak poking above the ridge over on the left? I'm HOPING to get the 14ers in the Crestone group sometime this summer. Terrific shot Kane! -Bob | | Posted Mar 7, 2008 8:20 pm |

Hasn't voted | Yep, them are the Crstones. I would love to join you for those peaks. It's strange when you climb everything around a beautiful peak just to look at the beautiful peak and then you realize it may be time to climb that beautiful peak. | | Posted Mar 7, 2008 9:10 pm |
