A great route up to this peak is via Brownstone Canyon, from Calico Basin, taking in a couple of big tinajas en route. I saw a large golden eagle on the ridge, as well as several bighorn sheep and a lone bobcat.
I climbed this one after some serious rain the day before and there was a lot of gravel, dirt and mud along the entire Calico Basin Road. I parked at the northern parking area in Calico Basin. During my hike, it started to rain hard so I took cover in a shallow sandstone cave/alcove at about 4,700 feet for about 40 minutes. There was water flowing everywhere. By the time I topped out the skies were partly sunny, but the runoff was still flowing steady.
