I just did the easy hike up to the summit. Nice boulder scramble near the top. A really nice trail until the top where it was nonexistent. Very good for a first solo!

My buddies and I climbed this several times (some in the dark) during my college days at CSU (1989-1995). But alas we did only the easy way up and never climbed the face. I always liked the little pond up top.

Took main trail to the summit trail, then a kind of circuitous route to the true summit. The cone offers great opportunities to snoop around on rock. Chorus of frogs at the top was a welcome surprise.

I started around 12:30 and reached the summit at around 2:30. We had a few brief episodes of very light rain and thunder on the way up. I made the mistake of going toward the north summit first, where I saw that the south summit was obviously higher. I tried traversing along the granite ridge toward the true summit, and that's when the character building began in earnest. There was a period of heavy rain, so I headed back down into the trees. The rain let up after a few minutes, and from there I climbed up to the true summit. By that point the sky had cleared up quite a bit, and views were great. I got back to the trailhead a little before 4:30.

Nice and fun solo hike. Fun descent down a shallow wide crack that took me straight back down to the trail.

Total ascents = 5. First time up the South Ridge, fun scramble with a few 5th class moves. Other ascents via the trail.

I have hiked this many times, it is my favorite day hike out of Fort Collins. My dog loves the scrambling near the top.

1st climbed in '98 with my 14 year-old son, many times since. A nice hike and climb. Best time from Sep thru May. Rattlesnakes can be an issue as well as poison ivy down low in the summer. Small pond on top can provide pumpable water. Every time I climb it I think about the boy that disappeared from the trail near the top back in the 70's.

Very warm hike/scramble up. Soaking in the Cache La Poudre River at the end was quite nice.

I really enjoy climbing here. The rock is fantastic granite and there are rarely any crowds. Ihave yet to try the bolted lines on the formation but I'm sure that will happen in the not too distant future. Nice summit. It has a bit of an alpine feel to it, similar to the Piz Baddile (sp?).

Climbed "Not the Greatest Route" and "The Greatest Route" in one long hot day. Tons of fun! Should've brought a third liter of water..

Matt and I calculated that we covered a total of about 7 miles and 2,300 vertical in 3 hours car to car. We took the longer meadows route on the way down to get some added distance!! Soloing the face is a blast! For a good combo trip check out the Cliff Jumping!

It was a fine sunny day but not too hot. There is very nice rock on this summit, good for scrambling or more serious routes. Look out for poison ivy on the lower parts of the trail. This was my first summit of the year.
