| The first time up we went from the Harris Springs side. Very nice, no one else on the trail. The second time we went up from the South Loop, and it was crowded. On the way down we got caught in a thunderstorm. Fortunately we always carry rain gear. | ||

| Abby and I had the peak to ourselves, which is becoming a rarity. Indeed, only saw one other group on the way up and they were heading to Charleston. Beautiful, sunny day, no wind. No snow :-( Saw a deer in the avalanche chute. First climbed in 2009 and have averaged at least twice a year since then. Nicest may have been a traverse going up the South Loop and down to Harris Peak Road (thanks to Barry doing the shuttle), in fall 2010. The South Loop trailhead construction is better than it was last fall, and not so annoying (now avoids the useless gain and loss) but parking must be horrendous on the weekend. | ||

| Went up with my wife (as usual) via the SLT. Annoying construction makes the beginning of the SLT confusing. Loved the sheer limestone cliffs and the unique views of Red Rock from this vantage point. 10 miles is a long day for us at this point. No snow today on the trail, just a couple patches in the shade in the avalanche chute. | ||

| Stopped at Griffith on the way to Charleston Peak via the south loop trail. There are some large snow drifts blocking the trail but they are easy to avoid. | ||

| Great time to climb this mountain if your looking to use your ice axe close to vegas. Crampons are not essential but would be helpful. Great weather with little wind! | ||

| lasvegaswraith | Still a lot of snow... ![]() Date Climbed: May 30, 2011 | |
| ...for late May. The SL is largely covered with snow from 8500' up, so it is best to either follow the ridgelines or previous footprints, if you trust them. Came down via the avy chute in Echo for a quick getaway! | ||

| SLT and then followed snowshoe and snowboard tracks up the face; snowshoes + ax/poles. No tracks on either side of the mountain, according to the log last summit was in early February. Didn't see anyone else all day. | ||

| Wow, it was LOVE at first sight with the Spring Mountains for me. I LOVE this place and cannot wait to get back. Charleston was Plan A, but there was an INCREDIBLE ammount of snow in the trees up higher. I got to the ridge, saw a clear shot up Griffith, and visited that summit, instead. A lot of folks turned around / didn't make it, but I did run into one local up there who was smart enough (unlike me) have his ice ax for the steep stuff. I delighted in the sheer limestone cliffs and was just amazed by the violence of the avy chute - splintered trees, rocks, etc. No doubt when that chute releases, it roars. Now I have an excuse to come back to visit Charleston! | ||
