"Got tight last night on absinthe and did knife tricks. Great success shooting the knife into the piano. The woodworms are so bad and eat hell out of all furniture that you can always claim the woodworms did it."

Second summit of the dayAfternoon views were somewhat lacking when compared to the outstanding clarity from Charleston. The fire zone was depressing, quite frankly.

3rd highest peak in Southern NVHiked up this big guy solo, from the South Loop. Classic "National Park" type climb, with loads of switchbacks. The big fire makes for a clear, "top of the world" kind of feel at the summit.

Almost missed itWe went up the South Loop with the intent of hitting at least Griffith & Charleston with a Mummy bonus. Bonus did not happen. When we got to the top of the ridge we made left to Griffith but missed the trail going up. We looped round the peak a bit until we realized what happened. We went right up the talus to the peak. Nice views, nice pictures, beautiful sunny mid 60° Thanksgiving day. Signed the log and to Charleston Peak we went. Half way to it the altitude hit us. Not too bad for me buy wife barely handled it, very funny at times. From Charleston Peak we went down North Loop to parking lot. Due to altitude sickness we lost time and since I knew at 6 was absolute darkness I decided no Mummy. Back to car happy & impressed with my wife's level of determination. 6:AM to 6:PM 20 miles loop.

Both Sides NowThe first time up we went from the Harris Springs side. Very nice, no one else on the trail. The second time we went up from the South Loop, and it was crowded. On the way down we got caught in a thunderstorm. Fortunately we always carry rain gear.

one of the bestAbby and I had the peak to ourselves, which is becoming a rarity. Indeed, only saw one other group on the way up and they were heading to Charleston. Beautiful, sunny day, no wind. No snow :-( Saw a deer in the avalanche chute. First climbed in 2009 and have averaged at least twice a year since then. Nicest may have been a traverse going up the South Loop and down to Harris Peak Road (thanks to Barry doing the shuttle), in fall 2010. The South Loop trailhead construction is better than it was last fall, and not so annoying (now avoids the useless gain and loss) but parking must be horrendous on the weekend.

Great trail, unique viewsWent up with my wife (as usual) via the SLT. Annoying construction makes the beginning of the SLT confusing. Loved the sheer limestone cliffs and the unique views of Red Rock from this vantage point. 10 miles is a long day for us at this point. No snow today on the trail, just a couple patches in the shade in the avalanche chute.
Again on 7/7/17 after Charleston. GPS track
Again on 6/30/18 via SLT. 1:46 up, 3:16 round trip.

Griffith PeakStopped at Griffith on the way to Charleston Peak via the south loop trail. There are some large snow drifts blocking the trail but they are easy to avoid.

Great Winter PeakGreat time to climb this mountain if your looking to use your ice axe close to vegas. Crampons are not essential but would be helpful. Great weather with little wind!
