hey Steve....berry season, they are normally so preoccupied, they don't pay us a huge amount of attention....I have lost a friend to a grizzly attack, so I am still cautious but always enjoy my exposure to them just the same..the wildest thing this day for us was turning back once we ascended the col below the massive northeast buttress and noticed one of several moose we stirred up in the morning crossing the chilly Rawson Lake....that was a serious swim, but she made it look like a piece of cake...you have to look in one of my photos here close to see it...cheers

"Dow" eaten by a bear? Somehow I imagine that discussion would quickly get moved to PnP. (most grizzlies are quite enormous compared to black bears) Cheers.

2009, for sure, I'm finally going hiking in griz country. But I have to admit that I'm a bit nervous about the possibility of encountering a grizzly. One of my backpacking friends had one burst out of the brush a few feet ahead of him last year in Glacier. Andy quite literally crapped his pants.

""You cannot stay on the summit forever; you have to come down again. So why bother in the first place? Just this: What is above knows what is below, but what is below does not know what is above. One climbs, one sees. One descends, one sees no longer, but one has seen. There is an art of conducting oneself in the lower regions by the memory of what one saw higher up. When one can no longer see, one can at least still know.""   --Rene Daumal
