Spectacular day on a spectacular mountain. Perfectly clear skies, no wind, temps in the 60's & 70's. Took a side trip bushwack over to El Capitan (well worth it) after summiting this, my 39th state highpoint.

Great hike with wonderful views from the summit. The pine canyon is beautiful, especially in the cool of the morning. The exposed trail towards the top can be very windy, so be careful.

This was peak number three on my 24 hour, three state highpoint tour. The other two were Black Mesa, Ok., and Wheeler Peak, N.M. Started from the trailhead at 3:30 am and reached the top around 6:00 for a great sunrise. Temps were great, but a little chilly at top. This is my 6th time up the peak. Anyone climbing should definately try headlamps at night. Great fun.

Nice day for a hike.

This is a nice climb, not too long or steep and lots of nice views.

I've climbed several times and been pushed back by weather on others, notably in Nov. There were several thousand clustered ladybugs on rocks near summit in 1990.

We got the last available campground permit. The Guadalupe Peak Campground is worth carrying the heavy stuff up the mountain. First group to the top on St. Paddy's Day and then chased off by a winter storm.

I first climbed this peak 15 years ago as a lad. :) This was my first summit of any mountain and it has a very special place in my heart. A perfect, moderate day hike. I have returned at least half a dozen times. I also highly recommend Hunter Peak via Tejas Trail and The Bowl Trail as an even cooler hike in this park.

May can be a very hot, dry and windy time of year in which to hike this peak (previously hiked in late summer). With that said, the views are still fantastic (in spite of increasingly common air pollution generated across the border).

Wow! This hike is spectacular. I loved the ruggedness and the beauty. This is a must for anyone that truly appreciates nature at her finest. The winds can be a real challenge. Can be very hot! However the view from the top of Texas is super.

Great time with my buddy Brian (see below) who came down South from P-town Oregon to nab this one. Overcast and windy..... let me rephrase.... WINDY LIKE A MO'FO'! It was my 2nd highest peak to date (Mt. Scott in southern Oregon is #1). And the steaks back at camp were all my idea.

Hiked up with my friend Rob on an overcast day. Got windier the higher we went. Great views and not too hot. Had a great time on the top of Texas. Went over and nabbed El Capitan afterwards. Had two steaks apiece back at the campsite!

Summitted at 5:10 A.M. just in time for the sunrise! We had skipped this peak in the past because it wasn't too high. What a mistake. The Guadalupe National Park is some of the best high desert alpine hiking I've ever experienced. Seeing the top of El Capitan from Guadalupe Peak was great. We also got to make a side trip to the World War II wreck sites of a B-17 and B-24 bomber. We plan on hiking more of this park in the near future plus it has trails that go all the way to Carlsbad Caverns.

Great hike .Woke up in Pine springs campground to 3 inches of snow on my tent. Energized me even more for the day since I knew less people would be on the trail. I thought I started at 10 am but found out it was 9am due to the change to MTN time. Got to the top 1st, cloud on summit that obstructed my journey next to El Capitan. El Cap became the second summit of the day. Insane winds almost blew me over and made me curse like a sailor even though I am ex Army.

Route Climbed: Gaudelupe Peak Trail Date Climbed: 10/31/2002  Sucess!

I arrived at the trailhead at 5am on Halloween morning, fog covered the mountain from sight.

I hiked the mountain blind, following the trail, with limited visibility. I passed the bridge, which is only about 10 feet across and comes in a downhill section of the mountain. As I continued up the trail, I felt lost, but only because I couldn't see the mountain, so I never knew how high I was, or how close to the summit, or in what direction was the summit. As I made my way up, I saw a clear view of the top. I had gotten above the clouds, so it looked like I was looking out of an airplane window. I sat at the summit, which was a bit chilly, and quickly made my way down. It took me about 80 minutes to get to the top.

If I ever go back, which I will hopefully do, I will allow myself 2 or 3 days to visit the area to ensure a clear day, and on an unclear day, I could head to Carlsbad Caverns.

My seventh time up this one happened to also be the snowiest! Unfortunately, that stopped any chance of climbing El Capitan this year, like I did in 2003. The weather did everything this weekend except for blue skies and sunshine, but it was still a great time. Tanya Musgrave was with me, and she summitted this peak for the first time - her first state high point! I swear, this park is like a drug...I just having to come back for more.

Nice overnight backpack trip with two friends. Very windy near the top. There are a couple of cleared tent sites with stone windbreaks that are most of the way up.

The peak was underwater during the Permian Period (245-286 million years ago) as the Guadalupe Mtns are part of the the largest exposed fossil reef in the world. Foraminifera fossils can be seen on the trail high up.

Carlsbad Caverns and Hueco Tanks are nearby and make the region worth a visit.
