Route Climbed: Guadalupe Peak trail Date Climbed: Nov 2000; 12 Oct 03
Both times I've hiked Guadalupe Peak have been in cool (40s and 50s) and rainy conditions, which were quite pleasant. Both times got lucky at the top: skies cleared and views were outstanding. This was my first state highpoint the first time I hiked it, and on the second hike, it was the first HP for my husband and brother.

A great way to spend Thanksgiving. The place was nearly vacant, camped at the high camp site. Got to enjoy some of the famous high winds the next day hiking to Bush Mountain. The peak was closed since the gusts were reaching in the 90 mph range. A little snow too. One of my favorite trips.

Duane and I enjoyed a gorgeous day to kick off our southwest sweep of Ultra prominence peaks. Of course, Guadalupe is not an Ultra, although it does have a healthy 3,029 feet of prominence. Interesting area.

Very beautiful!! What a feeling to stand atop Texas; what a feeling to actually make it. I don't get all those who say this is an easy hike. I'm in good shape, and I was struggling. But that just added to my enjoyment! No rattlesnakes or cougars. PLENTY of wind. It knocked my glasses off after I turned "The Corner" (those of you who have hiked it know which corner).

I had the great fortune of climbing the peak on a beautiful, blue-bird Easter morning. It was an Easter to remember, celebrating Christ's resurrection in His unspeakably beautiful creation.
Left early to beat the heat. The trail was easy to follow, even in the dark before sunrise. I got to enjoy the summit alone with the wind on a clear day. Definitely a nice hike and there are a lot of other nice trails in the park.

This was my fourth time to climb to the top of Texas. My first time I was 12 and climbed with my dad. They rerouted the trail since then, you used to hike towards Devils Hall and turn up one of the ridges. It was a longer trip then and I remember one spot that had some real exposure.

I haven't spent too much time in the desert, but this place really left me yearning for more. Very quiet spot to camp and hike. Amazing views, but lots of wind!

Hiked to the Top of Texas on Thanksgiving Day. This is a short, easy, and enjoyable hike. The trail climbs gradually through terrain that is studded with all sorts of funky desert and alpine flora. (Quite appropriately, the first song on the radio back in my car was Arlo Guthrie's "Alice's Restaurant." )

Watch out for the angry Mojave Green guarding the trail at lower elevations! Great views from the summit. During the summer months, take 25% more water than you think you might need.

I was lucky to have the company of two of my nieces and a friend and his son along with me when we dedided to hike up to the top of Guadalupe Peak. Guadalupe Peak was the begining of many more hikes and summits. I have to say that it was a challenge carrying a pack, but camping out was totally worth it. From the campground we saw the mountain cast a shadow on the desert below. It was cold that night, and raining the next day. We made the summit in the fog and rain. An hour later, the fog broke enough for us to get some spectacular views. It was hard to leave the summit and head back down the mountain. Even now, almost two years later I can still remember everything about the trip. It was an experience that will last a lifetime, but I will return...........
Cold but clear day. Got reaaaally windy at the top. Fortunately there is a little shelf a couple feet below the summit marker that provides enough wind relief to have lunch. Met a base jumper on the way up who was looking to jump off El Capitan. After finding out about the high winds, he wisely rethought his plan ;)

Great hike . . this one was alot of fun. Great views you dont expect from Texas. Looking west across the salt flats to Dell City from the Summit is a great view. Got really hot on the way down, but otherwise it was great. Hope the middleage gentleman carrying his and his wifes backpack made it down ok . . .
