Bear Cub  Sucess!

My wife and I scrambled down in less than hour, spent an hour exploring the area, then decided to ascend. On the way out of the campground, I looked across the river and saw a bear cub in the grass. We spent some time watching it from a far distance then ascended to the top in a little over an hour. Fun route!

Bri Wants To Help You  Sucess!

Stopped to talk to rangers at the visitor center about what route to take from the south rim down to the bottom of the canyon. The wonderful lady at the center said that she would like us to break a leg so she could earn some extra overtime to save us. Of course this was in jest, but it spoke to the fact that there are a lot of rescues on these steep trails to the bottom of the canyon. The Gunnison Route was steep, but had a feel of a climbers trail for sure, and plenty of slip sliding away on certain parts. It was about an hour to bottom and close to same on way out. The stagnant air in summer was HOT!!! Even at a 6:45 A.M. start. However the bottom of the canyon is gorgeous and worth the hike.

fun adventure  Sucess!

made the descent with my friend Don. We hiked upriver 1/3 mile and found some nice rocks to hang for a couple hours. Beautiful area. Even on a Sunday we only saw one other party. The route out was pretty quick, though a great workout. Lots of trails are evident, but the way out was pretty easy to follow. Nice 1/2 day adventure.

Day Hike to the River  Sucess!

Longest mile ever! We hiked down into the canyon via the Gunnison Route. Great trip. Just pay attention to landmarks and you'll get out ok. Took up 1hr 50min to hike in, and 1hr 30min to hike out.

nice late afternoon hike  Sucess!

nice hike after work. I am lucky that it takes me only 15 min to drive there.

Several times, including snowy hike with breaking the trail thigh deep… Lovely solitude and what a place to relax by the river…

Beautiful camping down there...
