Had to Wait for This One!

Artists' Paintpots - Yellowstone NP I had to wait for this one! The more popular geysers often overshadow the mudpots but be aware that when you are near mud pots you are close to one of the major vents from which lava flowed through Yellowstone's caldera. Sometimes you can smell the distinctive sulfur of the mud pots from the hydrogen sulfide gas!

This one is really cool!

Are you a fan of mud wrestling ???

It would be fun to do a "chemical analysis"
on this stuff. (Appears the flour has already been added!)

Where does the white coloration originate?
Is that from when it rains, and moisture
trickles into the caldera?

Then, the water transforms the sulfides
into calcium carbonate ???

If a person could make cookies out of that
slimy stuff, they could make a fortune very
quickly !!!

Thanks for sharing these photos with us !

Re: This one is really cool!

I'm sure this stuff has been analysed to death (no pun intended.) And the colors are from minerals present in the soil and so on.

Google has great info online.
