The Rio Grande is a river of great and varied character. In this image of its headwaters, taken in the Rio Grande National Forest, CO, it appears almost foreboding. Yet, I've thrilled on it while rafting its Class 3 waters just south of Taos, NM, and been seduced by the sublime as I canoed and even walked across it in the Big Bend, TX.
