fisher- as in weasel or wolverine?I assume this is named for this larger member of the weasel family that feeds on porcupines? In Maine they say that to get a hunting dog for a fisher, one puts both the fisher and the dog in a barrell- if dog comes out, you have a hunting dog. If the fisher comes out you were wasting your time.
