Scary hike in the dark  Sucess!

Started super late, wanted it be be a fun evening hike but ended up being out after dark which is never ideal in Glacier, especially on a mountain you've never climbed. Don't do that. Start with plenty of time. The relative proximity to Reynolds can be misleading about how long of a hike it is. I did 10.5mi and 3000ft elev. in 5 hours, which I am proud of haha.
Just got to the false summit. This was my last mountain both to wrap up summiting the entire Logan Pass area as well as before leaving for collage till next summer.

Heavy Runner  Sucess!

Solo, just to the false. Would love to come back for the true summit but would bring rope along for that.

A Glacier Great  Sucess!

First ascent of Heavy Runner was in 2013 with Mike. We had a very late start, like 2pm or something dumb. Hiked below Reynolds North face. We summited, and enjoyed most of the sunset before making our way down, and traversing the backside of Reynolds by headlamp. Not my favorite.

Went back in 2016 with Sean in July. We placed a summit register, as there wasn't one in 2013.

Since then Ive been told by friends who climbed Heavy Runner the register was removed.

Independence day climb  Sucess!

Reached the true summit and enjoyed the short class V section. Got hit in the head by a rock when rapping down...good thing I had a helmet on! Long, hot slog out through the scree around Reynolds on the way out, ugh! Overall a great climb. Climbed with Julia D

Whats up with these gms grades  Sucess!

Easy peak, but way harder than blackfoot, whats with these gms raitings! Another awesome climb in glacier. True summit is a fun climb, recommended to anything with a little climbing experience

True Summit  Sucess!

With Fred. Absolutely glorious weather and great views.
Only one tricky snow crossing/go around on the way across the basin.
The rappel sling left by the last party was in unexpectedly good shape and useable - the pica usually eat it between parties. So we saved the rappel stuff we had brought.

True Summit, roped for safety  Sucess!

My first class 5 in the wild. Awesome.
Perfect weather day, Sunny, 50F, No Wind(unusual)
Due to large late snow field and hard freeze that night we had to pass on the direct route and go around Reynolds. Slipped on a wet rock during the traverse, and took a pretty hard fall. Had to climb with a hole in the seat of my pants and a bruise on my thigh the size of a dinner plate.

East Face True Summit Tower  Sucess!

With Vernon (saintgrizzly). Strange, but good weather. Fun climb.

Climbed again on September 6, 2011 with Moni. Excellent weather.

True summit, with ropes...  Sucess!

As climbing partner Fred Spicker said upon reaching the summit: "Your first technical GNP peak, and you don't get credit for it!" So true. Heavy Runner's not considered one of the Park's technical peaks, but it should be. Yes, it can be done without ropes (although it's class 5.3 or 5.4—both ways, mind you—and I can easily imagine there have been many stressed-out down-climbs following unroped ascents), but then you never need ropes on any climb anyway...until you fall. Then what happens?

End of editorializing. Thanks so much for taking me up, Fred! A really nice day, and a peak I'd never have made on my own. And that rappel was a joy!

Intense day  Sucess!

Climbed with father and sister taking route around south of Reynolds. Ended up being a 14 hour day. Climbed up true summit with a rope tied around my waist and used webbing left by other climbers for a top-roped climb down. I enjoyed the perspective on the surrounding peaks.
