Climbed twice with skis (Jan 24, and Feb 13, 2006).
A short ski-tour (Jan 24, 2006) from Grafenmatt after spending most of the day on the ski pistes (returned the same way). Magnificent sunset ! Skied down in almost complete darkness, what an experience!
Second time (Feb 13, 2006) I also climbed via Grafenmatt (started in Fahl); after summiting Herzogenhorn continued to nearby located Silberberg (1358 m). Silberberg's N-NW face is quite steep (40-45°) and fun to ski down!
With skis, I started from Fahl with 12 other members of the French Alpine Club. We reached the summit of Herzogenhorn over Schläglebachtal, Grafenmatt, Krigsbachtal. We climbed the step east face conturning a huge cornice by the south. After a ski descent to the hamlet Hof, we climbed a second time on the summit over the Schwemmbachtal and the south-east shoulder. We skied then back to Fahl.
Total level difference of the journey : 1400 meters.
The snow height is exceptional this year in the Black Forest and reaches 3,50 on the summits.
