Had a nice day climbing with my friend Ms Montana. Nice climb in spite of clouds and rain. Hiked to the lookout and then over to the true summit via the South ridge. Was a little slick on some of the boulders because of the rain but we took our time and made it fine.

I did not hit consistent snow until the upper crossing of Sibley Creek. Then I got caught in a morning whiteout while side-traversing southward, which caused some minor delays and route-finding. When I reached the saddle near the lookout hill, I was not able to scramble the rocky slopes due to a dangerous mixture of ice, snow, and steep rocks. I side-traversed an upper steep snow slope to the ridge on the east side. The slope had some hidden moats opening up and a fall would have been bad news; I had no intention of returning back that way.

From the east ridge, the final boulder hopping to the lookout was straightforward. A man was staying at the lookout, the only member of a work crew doing maintenance there. Despite being in a potentially scenic part of the North Cascades, the low clouds prevented outward views of other peaks.

When I left the lookout, I headed far down the east ridge until beyond the moats and bergschrund-like gaps, headed down the hill towards Hidden Lake, and then did the long traverse up to the saddle. Then I continued up to the true summit of Hidden Lake Peaks, which was mostly just a snow climb/hike until the final slope. Overall, it was a fun outing except I wish there were better views.

But my most memorable part of the trip occurred during the evening leading to the hike. I tried car-camping at the trailhead but was repeatedly woken up every 5-10 minutes by a rodent (or rodents) climbing up onto my muffler and in my engine compartment. After multiple car-honks, alarm-sounds, and lights flashing everywhere, I finally got the rodent to go away. I was able to see that it was a vole, not a rat or deer mouse. However, it returned a short time later, much to my aggravation, so after chasing it away again I drove back down the road until reaching a switchback large enough to park on. There, I was able to sleep continuously for a couple of hours without intrusive rodents, although I wish I had slept longer prior to the hike.

Beautiful. It's possibly one of the best summit views in the cascades for a day trip. Transportation and photography made possible thanks to Mark Straub. We went to the north ridge instead of traversing to avoid hard packed morning snow sans-crampons. Had a blast! Worth coming back.

Amazing views. Stayed the night in the lookout after the half-day slog through the deep, fairly loose snow. Glissaded down much of the elevation the next day and made it to the car in less than half the time. Fantastic solo experience.

We were able to drive two miles up Sibley Creek Road and the weather and snow conditions were perfect for snowshoeing. The skies were clear enough to make out the outline of Rainier 120 miles to the south!

After a failed attempt in December due to a foot of snow dumping on the mountain while we hiked, we made it up on the second attempt! The snow plow stopped before MP 8 so we had to hike 2 miles up Cascade River road road and switch backs up to the west ridge.

We had to snowshoe 9 miles/5700 ft. elevation gain to reach the top. We started the hike at 9am and got to the lookout at 6:30pm. The 360 panoramic views of 8,000 ft. peaks, Mt. Baker and the nice an warm cozy lookout made it all worth while!

Two skiers had arrived the day before. We all shared the lookout. It was a balmy 60 degrees inside with the duraflame logs we hauled up there.

I wanted to reach the summit the next morning, but the fog rolled in and we couldn't see more than 20 ft., so we headed back down.

Climbed with my buddy, Bill. Going to have to write something up on this one. Scrambled to the true summit and on the way down saw every straight male climber's dream. God bless women like that.

Text book example of a perfect hike in the North Cascades!
Don't forget to take advantage of those excellent rock scrambling opportunities on your way to the true summit!

Headed up there to help out with some general maintenance of the lookout. That was the destination so I do not think I actually summited the main "Hidden Lake Peak". I did however scramble up to the highest point there at the lookout. I love that lake!

The first time we went up the high point and descended/glissaded down the slope to meet the trail lower down. then in '10 went up the lower peak with the fire lookout.

Took my Mom up this hike for a change in scenery, as I lived in the Diablo/Ross Lake region of the North Cascades National Park for the past year and hadn't explored as much up the Cascade River Road. Hidden Lake Peaks lookout was amazing. Spectacular day with a short, but scenically varied trail. I loved reaching the upper boulder fields with the streams passing through the trail. Amazing. I'll do it again for fun someday soon!

How many times have i driven past this trailhead on the way to Cascade Pass? Nice little climb/boulder hop with the Mazamas. Lovely day with a turn in the weather lurking in the air.
