High Country Meadow

High Country Meadow

This unexpected meadow on a ridge above Mesa Lake was embellished with bunches of Shooting Star flowers, moss and a cold stream. This is my favorite habitat in the Sierra--above timberline with great views but not a heap of talus. The peak above is 12,225 and on its left shoulder is Puppet Pass, which gives quick access to French Canyon and Pine Creek Pass from Humphreys Basin. John Muir Wilderness, Sierra Nevada, California, USA. August 2010.
