Route Climbed: North Ridge  Sucess!

A long day and my cached water I had left on the way in was not there on the way out. Part of a 10 day 18 14,000 ft. summit solo climbing trip.

N Ridge  Sucess!

Long hike in the clouds. Unfortunately no view that day, and I have yet to return to that area. I would like to, to see what it looks like.

North Ridge Route  Sucess!

Due to some absent-mindedness on my part (going back to the car a mile into the hike to make sure the headlights were turned off & going backwards a shorter distance later on to retrieve my camera which I left on a rock after a photo op) I made an already long hike (5,500 ft. elevation gain) into an even longer one (6,500 ft. elevation gain). The views of the peak from Halfmoon Pass were absolutely spectacular though, and the waterfalls in the area make this one of the prettiest mountain locations I've ever been to. The bouldering from the north ridge to the summit was easy, but we got a little off-course on the way back down. Since it was clear, we could see and recognize over a dozen other 14ers to the west, south, and east from the summit. After almost no sleep the night before, a 3-hour drive there, a long hike, and a 3-hour drive back to Boulder, I was pooped.

Up the Cross  Sucess!

Up the rock to the left of the Cross Couloir for about 500 feet, then up the snow in the couloir to the horizontal cross bar, the up the rock to the right of the cross. Nice alpine climb.

Route: Halfmoon TH, North Ridge  Sucess!

I'll never forget this, since it was days after 9/11. We were scheduled to go to Chad's cousin's wedding in Michigan, in which he was supposed to be the best man, but air travel was still pretty much out of the question. We camped at Halfmoon campground with a lot of loud drunk people, so we were tired at 4am wake-up, which may be why CHad had a rough day. This was a SPECTACULAR hike even though we had waves of storms coming in all day - rain, sleet, hail, snow. (Good thing we had our gore-tex.) It was cool to watch them travel over in sheets across from the Elk range. Had a bit of a scare near the summit with surprise thunder/lightning-snow storm...The hump up and down Halfmoon pass is a bit of a discouragement, but well worth the effort!

My last Sawatch 14'er; best in the range. Long and beautiful. Perfect weather.

Tried to summit also in November but ran out of time.

Did this mountain on NO SLEEP! I worked the night before. Got to the top, only one up there and headed back down and met my friend who 'pooped' out at treeline back at the car. I collapsed and had her drive back home. I fell asleep almost immediately. A good day though, nice weather.

Sophia & Larry Creighton

We began our fifteen mile, three day journey, in August of 2004.We were traveling through a land, most only see in postcards.Every step was a mix of pleasure and pain. It is hard to describe how it feels to summit. God truly does reserve some things for those willing to endure the hardship of the journey. Larry approached the summit log and signed for the both of us, as I was fighting the nausea that comes with altitude sickness. He had secretly written in the comments section that a proposal was about to take place. Digging around in his backpack, he pulled out a film canister that must have had an entire roll of duct tape on it. Knowing that his insurance coverage was probably lost in the mail and that he would surely drop the ring down some never ending crack, he moved slowly back to where I was perched. In between my hacking, he dropped to one knee. The ring was placed on my finger as I said “yes.”The romantic scene was not playing out as he had imagined it in the weeks prior. However, I thought it was just perfect!

My first fourteener!! I was so pumped to get to the top and the view stole my heart. It began my 14er quest that I still embark on and my addiction to being as high as I can be. We came up cross creek from lower down on Tigiwon, bushwacking up to East Cross. It was very cool.

LOOOONNG Day. Spent Friday night along the Halo ridge trail. After summiting decided it was too rough to descend. Took the long way back to the trailhead and bushwhacked the last two miles back to our tent. Finished close to 9:00pm. Next time I will sleep in the Notch Mountain Shelter (don't forget water) and summit the next day. Great, LONG route.

We hiked all through the night which made for a faster summit. Got to the summit around 5am, and had an hour to rest and enjoy the awesome view plus the sunrise around 6 am was...outstanding. It was my first 14'r. Thanks Trev.

A long day (4:10 up, 3:30 down), but a spectacular climb with a stunning summit. I must not be nearly as fit as gurlyclimber ;) - I found that 1000vert ft ascent at the end exhausting. I'm definitely planning on one (or both) of the couloirs next year.

Left the TH just before sunrise, 5:50 MDT. 4 hrs, 1 min. to the summit, travelling very light. Mild, sunny weather and great views, especially of the Elk Range 14ers. Failing to trim my toenails sufficiently the night before made the trip down take just as long as the trip up--live and learn! But I had the summit all to myself for 15 minutes. A beautiful hike and a challenging climb.

Most beautiful climb in the Sawatch by far. I was really impressed not only by the scenery, but by how steep this one was. Cool clouds and fog added to the fun.

Great climb!! Started at 12:00 AM and summitted just before 5:00 AM. We waited around on the summit until about 6:00 so we could se the sunrise. I climbed with Dylan Wann, Alex Wann, and John Sandlain.
