From South Fork Campground  Sucess!

Trip report. Late season solo dayhike - horrible bushwhacking and postholing which ended by headlamp. Ugh.

14:20 dayhike, including a big route-finding mistake on the way in. Thanks to LincolnB for posting below and answering my private questions.

From South Fork campground  Sucess!

14 hour dayhike, following Eckert's route on climber.org. There were use trails much of the way so brush wasn't that bad. My least favorite part was the steep off-trail climb from Surprise Camp to Salt Ridge.

From Cahoon Rock  Sucess!

Hiked the long way from Southfork campground with G, M, M, and E. Tough hike but great views along the ridge. Also, fantastic walk through the Garfield grove.

Kaweah Bridge  Sucess!

Overnight on the summit starting from the Kaweah River bridge in Oak Grove.

I did not like this peak.

From Cahoon Rock  Sucess!

The hike to Cahoon Rock is quite pleasant. The hike to the Nose from there is less so but there was not as much brush as I was expecting. Although there was a lot more side-hilling. Either way, plan on putting out lots of effort for this peak.

Hockett Meadows/Evelyn Lake  Sucess!

Climbed the 'left nostril' by mistake. We "picked" the right one after lunch.

Route Climbed: South Fork of Kaweah LadybugTrailhead Date Climbed: May 13, 2006  Sucess!

Six of us left the Ladybug Trailhead to head up Pigeon Creek (lots of poison oak and brush) and on to Surprise Camp to get water and also wash off the poison oak. Salt Creek Ridge was interesting, some snow but didn't need ice axe or crampons. Long 14 hour day but the views were spectacular and the weather was perfect!

Route climbed: From the South Fork of the Kaweah River  Sucess!

Long day with Daryn D, Patty R, Stephanie G., Bill L., and Ron H. Left from the cars and 6 am and returned at 8:30 pm. This is a true peakbaggers route. Plan on a long hard bushwack with lots of nav!

Route Climbed: From Mineral King Road (Oak Grove) Date Climbed: Nov 11, 2005  Sucess!

With Bob and Rick. As Bob said, not the greatest outing. At least there was no poison oak.

Route Climbed: Hockett Meadows/Evelyn Lake Date Climbed: July 8-10, 2005  Sucess!

Backpacked in from Mineral King to Hockett Meadows. Camped at Evelyn Lake. XC to the ridge between Cahoon Rock and the Nose and traversed the ridge to the summit. On the return trip, bagged Cahoon Rock. Great hike, but heavy brush in certain places on the ridge.
