Hiked from Lee Pass to Kolob Arch, stayed a night, then out Hop Valley. Very windy up in the valley, lots of blowing sand. Pretty sites, though. Encountered the cows as well and skirted them. After this then we did the West Rim Trail.
Had car shuttle so Al Baltis and I were able to do long one way 17 mile one way hike: La Verkin Trail with Kolob arch side trip and down the Hop Valley trail. In Hop Valley (beyond fence in 1993)we were confronted with the meanest looking longhorn cattle I had ever seen. We had to go through them to proceed, which we did slowly and brandishing our staffs. They let us go. I have no idea if these are still there nowadays.
