Horned frog | [ Sizes: Orig | Large | Med | Small | Thumb ] |
I almost stepped on this colorful little guy as I headed up the trail to Kendrick Peak. I haven't ever seen a horned frog with such coloration before. It certainly helps him to blend into the reddish soil color found in this part of Arizona.

Hasn't voted | Huggable and cuddly. Of course the little pikas I saw on Wheeler Peak were a bit cuter.

Hasn't voted | Thank you for your comments. This guy was a great poser. I snapped away while he basked in the limelight. | | Posted Aug 14, 2008 1:14 am |

and pat its tiny head.
A great year for Horned Toads! I've been seeing quite a few in the Prescott NF. Outstanding !!!
Must be a bit larger than a pine cone.

Hasn't voted | Ha Larry, patting the little guy on the head would probably have ticked him off. He was a bit larger than a pine cone as the pic shows.
Good to hear from you as always and thank you. | | Posted Aug 14, 2008 1:16 am |

Voted 10/10 | Since I grew up in the Flagstaff area, we used to find these guys all the time and keep them as pets for a few days, regardless the size. We would have contests to see who could find the smallest ones, cuz the smaller the cuter.
One time my sister got sprayed in the face with blood shooting from a horny toads eyes. That was kind of freaky, but never made us loose interest in them.
These were fun creatures to have around when we were kids. | | Posted Sep 23, 2008 12:36 am |

Hasn't voted | You must have seen many of this colored variety then. In California where I grew up, we'd find them only in gray coloring. I really liked them too but my mom would always make me take them back to where I found them. Glad to find another one who appreciates these special critters. | | Posted Sep 23, 2008 4:08 pm |
