| I thought this would be more fun, but it was a little small and the scrambling was minimal. Also, the weather was bad. Afterward, I did Avalanche Peak for a little extra exercise. | ||

| Climbed this peak as part of the Hoyt-Avalanche traverse and enjoyed every minute of it - Avalanche was anticlimactic after it! | ||

| Really fun hike. It made for a nice escape from the crowds at the park. Great views the whole way up. | ||

| climbed this peak a number a of times during the 2005 summer season. quite an amazing view at sunset, and especially so on clear days when you can see all the way to the Grand, towering over the Tetons and a sea of GYE peaks... there was a fun "challenge" that we put to our fellow scramblers when I lived in Yellowstone: start at Eleanor Lake parking, tag the summit of Avalanche and follow the ridgeline as it curves back around to connect up to Hoyt, then boogie down the slope to cross the road and tag Grizzly peak and take up that ridge to Top Notch peak, then back drag yourself back to the car to drive back to the pub for a victory round. on a whim, we named it the Quattro del Fuego. | ||

| A nice looking mountain that is very much worth doing. Fun. | ||

| I'm pleasantly surprised to see this peak show up on SP. I climbed this one a few times while working in the park. Hoyt is a nice alternative to often crowded Avalanche and also makes for a nice combo. | ||

| Have made the climb many times, many of which I doubled up with Avalanche. In 2007 I never climbed Avalanche without making the hike over to Hoyt. One of my favorite mountains to climb living at Lake Lodge for so many summers. | ||

| My husband and I tried this one relatively early in our hiking career ... sans GPS and helpful Summit Post articles. We bailed out near the summit. He climbed it this year; perhaps I'll get another chance. | ||

| I remember my partner chastising me for expressing doubts about our chosen route near the summit ridge and a steep, off-trail descent on dirt/scree above the road. | ||

| The outing up Hoyt then Avalanche Peaks with Bob Sihler was about perfect. Nice weather, no one else on the trail (well, we did see 14 people on the way down, but that doesn't count), few insects, and no bears tried to eat us (not that we expected them to go for a couple of skinny guys like us). The spectacular views were icing on the cake. | ||

| Mike Hoyt and I did both on a perfect Yellowstone morning. This page very accurately details the route and can be trusted; I was along for the climb and can verify all of the details. The views into the old glacial basin from Hoyt's summit and ridge were my favorite part. | ||
