A decent little hike...  Sucess!

...except for the two minutes and thirty-eight seconds when the sun went out. Those were kind of amazing.

This humble hill happened to be smack-dab in the middle of the path of totality for the 2017 solar eclipse, so I dragged my friends up the Skyway to see it here. Several hundred of our closest friends had the same idea, so parking was a challenge, but all in all, the crowd was much calmer and friendlier than I'd expected. We wound up hiking a mile from our car to the trailhead, then another mile and change to the summit, which, by 10 am, was already coated in tents and telescopes. We waited up top until totality at 2:35 pm (partial clouds had us worried we'd miss it, but the sky cleared up just in time), then we hung around another hour or so to let the crowd clear out before we descended.

360-degree views of a 360-degree sunset around a white ring in an indigo sky... I'll never forget this hike.

Exceedingly pleasant  Sucess!

Really pleasant stroll through the woods and open summits to the top. Lovely wild flowers scattered about and wide expansive views every which way. Also: the entire mountain to myself!

WOW  Sucess!

What a view! I could trace the AT on the ridgelines from Bly Gap to Clingmans Dome, >100 trail miles. Could see from Mt LeConte to Tray Mt to Brasstown Bald.
