Standard Route  Sucess!

Climbed with my friend Dan Pate of Fort Worth and his daughter Lauren. It was Lauren's 14th Birthday and her first 14'er! She set the pace and we made it in 2 1/2 hours from camp at South Colony Lakes to the summit.

West Ridge  Sucess!

This was my first climb of Humbolt. It was via the standard west ridge route. I walked most of the road from where I parked my 2WD car.

Spanish Creek  Sucess!

Hiked the West Ridge from Spanish Creek Trailhead round-trip in a long 13+ mile, 6600+ ft. elevation day. The view of the Crestones from the Bear's Playground was incredible.

Scouting Trip  Sucess!

I climbed Humboldt to get a better view of the Crestone Traverse (not that the traverse route could actually be seen). Still, it gave me more confidence in making the traverse the next day. Humboldt was so nice, I was tempted to camp on top of it. Luckily I didn't, because the blue skies of the day gave way to a midnight thunder-boomer.

Route Climbed: South Slopes/South East Gully

This was my 1st 14er. My friend & neighbor Scott was my guide. He helped me get all my gear together etc. What a rookie I was. I was changed forever at about 13,000 feet as I gazed through the clouds and as the sun came up and cast it's light upon the Crestone's. We were surprised by the nice weather and my sense of accomplishment at the summit was astounding. Scott was a great friend and guide.

West Ridge  Sucess!

After getting a flat on S. Colony Rd, going back to town to get it patched, we made the summit in time for an amazing sunset behind the Crestones!

West Ridge  Sucess!

This is a formidable mountain in the right weather. High winds, heavy snow, but with the right gear it's all good.

Meh  Sucess!

I lost a contact on the way up and found it on the way down. That was the most exciting part of the day. We considered the Peak, but weather looked iffy.

#2  Sucess!

My second. We weren't even planning on climbing it that day, so we got a late start. Made it to the saddle and just kept going. Very windy at the top, saw two other people all day.

w/ challenger and kit, one day  Sucess!

I think there are more marmots on this mountain than on any other Colorado 14er I ahve been on. This is a great mountain to take a nap at the top on. =-]

Humboldt  Sucess!

Lots of people!! Nice work done on the trail. Probably my last 14'er for the season and a nice one to end it with.

Playground Indeed  Sucess!

After an unsuccessful attempt at Crestone's N.W. Couloir, I turned around, returned to Bear's Playground, ascended the high unnamed peak, and then hit Humboldt on my way back to my South Colony Lake camp. A playground indeed!

Via West Ridge from the Upper TH  Sucess!

Wanted to do Kit Carson but got waylaid by a leaky hydration bladder, started up at 5:35AM and reached an empty summit at 8:35. Pretty wet day all-and-all, but the weather held long enough, back to my truck at 10:38AM. My 30th 14'er on this fine wet morning. Sweet!!

Fabulous Day on the East Ridge!  Sucess!

It was cloudy and foggy the entire journey which made the ascent easier. Small clouds kept enveloping us as we traversed up the mountain which made the Humboldt drop off even more dramatic.

The East ridge was great, saw a lot of wildlife, but no other people until the summit...where we saw ~20 people and more on their way up.

Happy B-Day BSG  Sucess!

Summited just before heading out of the fabulous Crestone group. It happened to be BlueSkyGirl's birthday - so I dedicated the climb to her. Great peak - beautiful shape - easy walk-up. The clouds all around made for great pictures. Lovely!
