three out of four  Sucess!

Enjoyed hiking the Weatherford Trail, well maintained, thanks a million. Spent 6 hours round trip a little more up a little less down. Spectacular 360 view from the summit. As always this climb was dedicated to A.W. who was KIA during GWOT. Adios

Climbed up Abineau trail on the north side, got to the 3 avalanche paths, picked one, and made for the ridge, the descent down the avy path was quite interesting :)

Escape from the Heat  Sucess!

Climbed at the onset of a major heat wave so it was a moderate 69 degrees at the summit with no risk of storms or Humphreys' vaunted winds. We went up on a weekday, encountering a number of groups and solo hikers but no big crowds. The first 3/4 of the hike climbs through forest. The whole trail is well-maintained but we and other hikers that day (both young and old) still found the climb long and strenuous. The last mile involves some minor scrambling on sections above the saddle and treeline. The summit affords fine views but the occasion was diminished by clouds of gnats that swarmed you the minute you stood still. Couldn't agree more with HP#9 about Flagstaff.

Ho Hum  Sucess!

A pretty dull hike, and not worth the nearly 300 mile drive to it. All trail, hot and dusty. Crowded even on an early Thursday morning.

Hiking trip from Vegas  Sucess!

A good day climb reserved for winter. About 2-3hrs hike to an extended crater ridgeline offering top of the world views of Arizona, Painted desert, and Grand canyon. The drive north of Flagstaff is short and picturesque, winding through an aspen forrest ending at the upper lodge of the ski resort. Wind might be a factor but there wasn't any. Post holing was mainly through high alpine forest; we were on the hunt for the downed aircraft. Enjoy!

Last day of winter, felt like spring  Sucess!

We enjoyed the last day of winter with this great snow climb and scenic views. One word of caution, don't go up the ski slopes when they are in operation :) The staff don't like that too much.

One of my favorite hikes  Sucess!

There were a bunch of wildfires raging when I hiked this. Made for some spectacular views. Felt lunar on the summit.

12,000 ft on 12-12-12!  Sucess!

Mission 12,000 on 12-12-12 was a success! My father and I decided to do this mountain because of the date, and well, it's also my birthday. The wind was ferocious on top and almost blew me off despite my 200 pound body. It was a lot of fun though, and very pretty. Thanks mountain!

Top of Arizona  Sucess!

Hiked the standard Humphrey's trail from the Snowbowl. I wish I had been here 2 weeks earlier when all the aspens were at their peak color. The forest floor, however, was very beautifully colored in the leaves from a week or two ago. Pretty busy trail for such a late date. I counted around 50 entries at the register that is a little less than a mile into the trail (with sometimes many people per entry). I hiked up in the afternoon. Was super windy as expected the last half mile. Probably gusts around 30-40 mph at the summit. I had the summit to myself for about 10 minutes before being joined by two other people. Sun set as I was hiking the last half a mile. Gorgeous view of the painted desert sky of Northern Arizona greeted me as I walked back through the meadow to the trail-head. Amazing afternoon. Thanks Arizona! 2nd State High Point. 6th Ultra.

Quick Humphrey's Report  Sucess!

Great hike along the standard Humphreys Peak Trail. Fantastic weather the entire trip, with only a few snow/slick patches scattered here and there. Very little traffic on the way up (started around 7:45 am), but it appeared that the masses came out as I was descending (maybe around 10:30 or so). I would definitely recommend this hike to everyone, but I wouldn't wait too much longer if you are hoping to avoid any substantial snowfall (Winter being just around the corner and whatnot...)

Cheers

Just beat the masses  Sucess!

The aspens were in full color on this nice fall outing and the temps were in the 60's. Started at 8 a.m., which we thought was a bit late, but only ran into a few people on the way. It was on the way down that we encountered dozens of groups. 5 hours round trip. When we got back to the lot it was packed, I mean packed. Snow Bowl during the fall leaves must be the place to go.

Awesome way to end my time here  Sucess!

I've been working in the area for the summer. It was nice to climb up to the peak as a last hike of the season. It helps when you get to hike with a cute hiking partner too! Great weather, good friends, amazing view, couldn't ask for more.

HP #25  Sucess!

Very windy and quite cool. I've never seen clouds move this fast, blue sky to white out and back and forth, trees falling in forest made me nervous. However full success happy to get this peak in during family vacation in Sedona.

6th summit  Sucess!

Set up a shuttle at weatherford/snowbowl. Started at Snowbowl, camped around saddle, summited at around 7 PM. Woke up and went down weatherford. First overnighter on the peaks!
