Perfect Winter Ascent  Sucess!

Ascended Humphreys with Mike, Mark and Rick. Three of us had splitboards and one slowshoer. Weather on top was amazing, low 40s with very minimal wind. Had the summit all to ourselves with great views of the GC North Rim. Splitboard descent was very challenging in highly variable conditions. A phenomenal trip to the top of AZ!

Fun despite the weather  Sucess!

We left camp at the Grand Canyon before sunrise and got on the trail just after 8, hoping to avoid afternoon storms. We encountered a little rain and lots of wind and clouds, even a bit of sleet on the summit. There was no view due to the clouds. We heard some thunder on the way down the ridge, but it never got close. It was a fun hike and we met lots of nice people along the way and enjoyed great beer at a brewpub in Flagstaff afterward. arizona getaway  Sucess!

I really dig Flagstaff/Sedona... mellow half-day hike... spent an hour on the summit... interesting views... red rock navajo nation, north rim of the grand canyon, endless yellow pine country... the volcanic area feels like oregon... brought cody on a leash the whole way

Long day  Sucess!

Climbed after driving down from Salt Lake, which made for a long day. Heard some ominous thunder early in the climb, but things cleared up pretty nicely by the time we reached timberline.

Sooo Windy  Sucess!

My second state high point! Good hike through thick woods for most of the way, I saw several elk and deer. Once I got out of the trees and into the rocks the wind really picked up and by the time I was nearing the summit it was so windy I couldn't even stand. I made it to the summit by running and ducking behind rocks and holding on to my hat. 5 hours round trip.

Rising Arizona  Sucess!

Hiked up with a great group of Highpointers from all over the US. Wind picked up to 50 or 60 mph on the summit. Had to walk crab style facing the wind.

Hoar frost n'shorts  Sucess!

Moogie737 and I made it to the top after starting from the ski trailhead near sunrise. Nice trail, beautiful colors, cool temps, and some hoar frost. I was underprepared [I had planned for Phoenix weather] and was only saved by the hair on my legs! What a beautiful mountain!

snowbowl

Attempted the peak in late spring but didn't realize that their would still be snow at the top. Decided that without crampons it would be to dangerous.

Great Hike!!!  Sucess!

First person to summit that morning, and first one down... No thunderstorms encountered above treeline, although some could be seen in the distance and three very minor hailstorms quickly passed while traversing the false summits. Some parts of the trail were a little rockier or steeper than I originally imagined, but overall this is a great trail, good workout, and very scenic hike!!! Highly recommended!!! State Highpoint #32!!!

hitched a ride  Sucess!

Back in '69 we hitched a ride on the ski lift.
More legitimate ascents were in 8-16-1991 when we hiked Molly
up in a child carrier, and 9-4-1999 when the whole
family hiked up.

very nice mountain  Sucess!

Met a dude from Flagstaff right before I started out, and he asked to hike with me, so I said sure. He climbed the mountain many times before. There was still a bit of snow left for June. It really was a perfect day. No wind, it wasn't cold, clear skies, not crowded, and snow for scenery. I really liked this mountain. Flagstaff is a nice mountain town. I'm glad I went.

need more O2!  Sucess!

first time that high. being a flatlander, i spent the previous night in Flag at 7k feet. didn't help. locals were drifting by me like i was carrying a lead ball. wicked windy on the ridge, but not impossible. still some snow drifts on the Humphrey's trail in spots, but no problem, and melting quickly. all in all, awesome.

Lots and lots of mushrooms  Sucess!

Have hiked up several times in summer season. This one time, my family noticed that there were edible mushrooms - EVERYWHERE! I think they were shitakes, but can't quite remember. Luckily we had lots of plastic bags. Took home over 100lbs worth.

Winter  Sucess!

Spent the craziest night on the top. Broke two tent poles. Wild storm that out did anything on Denali.

Rocks In My Pockets

Since my truck was in the shop in Flag andI couldn't work I decided to climb the peak. As I approached the summit a guy heading down said "watchout you don't get blown off the top" I thought he was joking til I was less than a hundred feet from the summit. I dropped to the ground, tightened all the straps on my pack and zipped up my jacket then crawled to the summit. From behind the rock wind break I would grip my camera tightly, take a shot then duck back down. Could see all the way to the canyon so was a good summit day.
