Britannia Hütte

The Britanniahütte 3.030 m (SAC) is a mountain hut located in the Swiss Alps in the Mischabel Massif (Pennine Alps), Canton of Valais. It is one of the most-booked SAC huts and marks the start of the legendary Haute Route.

The shelter is frequented as a support base for climbing three very coveted 4000er: Strahlhorn, Rimpfischhorn and Allalinhorn.

History

The hut is over a century old, in fact it was built  in the year 1912 on the initiative of some British members of the Swiss Alpine Club. At that time the shelter had a capacity of 34 sleeping places. It was subsequently expanded in 1951 and again expanded as well as fully renewed in the 1997.  It now offers 134 comfortable beds, three dining rooms and modern bathrooms. The hut is one of the most modern huts in the Alps.
You have a great view to Allalinhorn, Strahlhorn and Weissmies group. Far away you see the Bernese Alps.
