Brief HistoryThe chalet Pod Rysmi is the highest situated chalet in the High Tatras. The Austrian mountaineer, Ubald Felbinger was the first to come up with the idea to build the shelter at this location, at the end of the 19th century. Its construction was put off for many years because of technical and financial problems; whereby the ideas of its location differed as well (the proposed places were, for example Zabie lakes, Vahy ridge etc.). The construction of the chalet was carried out in bad climatic conditions during 1931 and 1932 by the private building company Sasinka and financed by the Czechoslovak tourist club. The opening ceremony was in 1933. During World War II. the chalet was occupied very sporadically, mostly by fascists refugees. It is open only during the summer season (from June 15 to October 31). It was built in the right part of the Mengusovská Valley, bellow the Váha saddle. It is situated on a frequently used path leading to the Rysy peak. After the avalanche damage in 1954 the first reconstruction was started and in 1977 the first floor was built.Basic InformationAccess: on foot from the Popradské pleso (red trail, 2:20) or from the Rysy peak (red trail, 1:00)
