I hadn't seen a pic from the...

I hadn't seen a pic from the east of Boundary Pk. so I stopped on US 95 just north of Coaldale and snapped this shot using the telephoto on my digital camera. Boundary is about 45 air miles away.

Re: I'm glad you did

Its amazing what a blue sky will do and some sunshine to make a good pic. Take a look at this one snapped a couple weeks prior on this peak. Thanks for your comments.

Re: I'm glad you did

Smog? good grief, it is just not right to have smog in an area like this. I grew up in L.A. and I hate smog so now I live in eastern washington and we don't have smog. (too windy)

Give me the wide open spaces.

Re:Smog?

We only get smog when it blows in from beautiful, green, environmentally-concious California. Sources include the Sac Valley, So-Cal (up the Owens Valley), and large fires in their poorly-managed forests. Otherwise, the Nevada desert sky is a sharp blue.

*Nevadans can't resist the opportunity to slam CA for shipping their problems to us, heheh*

Re: Re:Smog?

The problem is nowadays Scotty, a good chunk of Nevadans are people who got smart and escaped to Nevada from California. Las Vegas now reminds me of L.A. so that just can't be good. : (

That was an unspoken part of the comment, of course.....

Re: Re:Smog?

And much of the smog in the Sacramento - San Joaquin valley is sent there from the wonderful folks in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Re: Re:Smog?

I was just down there and there was snow covering all the adjacent peaks making the area look really nice. I had no time to do any peaks however as it was just a quick trip down to see my mom. The snow closed Kingman Az down for the first time in 20 years . I'm hoping to get down again in March so maybe we can hook up.

Re: Re:Smog?

Dan, you guys are wonderful. You need to post a completion map so I can see what you need in Calif. Looking at Yolo soon.

Re: Re:Smog?

Geez, that looks like just about the same spot where I took mine from. Just north of Coaldale near the salt marsh. The difference between our pics is that I zoomed in a bit with the telephoto and there was a bit more snow. I have one pic from that spot that shows the whole White Mtn range and it just doesn't show up well.

Your pic of Mt. Grant is very similar to one I took heading into Hawthorne. Again, I used a little telephoto effect to make the mountain fill the screen. Neat area. I wished Pilot peak had had some snow on it, it would have made a nice shot (near Mina) Gotta get back to Nevada, gotta get back to Nevada, gotta get back.......

Re: I'm glad you did

attm, The last few days of October 2003 were when the wind shifted to southwest, and the huge fires (national news) in southern CA were blowing their smoke inland. Was this when you were there, or were you there earlier in October (before the 27th)?

Re: Ghrrrrr

I'm more inclined to think I was very fortunate to hit the lighting just right. The contrast of the desert floor and the white mountain seemed to be just about right. Thank you for your comments. I use a canon G-3 4MP camera.

Great Shot!

Boundary and Montgomery look great together on this beautiful day. Makes one want to just sit and stare at the beauty.

Re: Great Shot!

It was an incredible day for driving. I failed to take pics of Star as I went by but the lighting was really good for the White Mtn range. I could see Arc Dome and So. Jefferson from near Tonopah and they were both very snow covered. Gotta get back to Nevada. Thanks for the vote and comments.
